facebook login Is it OK for your boss to ask for your Facebook Login?Employers have been using information on Facebook to assess potential hires for years, that’s nothing new. What is new is the extreme position some employers have taken in respect to their employee’s Facebook accounts.

There have been a string of reports in the media recently of employers requesting the Facebook login and password of potential hires, so that they can log into the account and look around. This is obviously an invasion of privacy, but apparently not in the minds of these employers.

What do you think? Should your boss be allowed to ask for your Facebook login and password. And should he or she then be allowed to log into your account an snoop around? Let us know what you think in the comments.

With Valentine’s Day just a couple of week away, people around the world including cybercriminals are getting ready, and Facebook with over 800 million users is a sweet place for them.

One of the earliest Valentine’s scam making the round this year comes in the form a Valentine’s Day theme for Facebook profiles according to computer security firm Trend Micro.

Like other scam apps, the attack starts off as a post (with a link) on affected users’ wall inviting other users to install a Valentine’s theme into their Facebook profile.

valentinestheme 20120129 Scam Alert: Valentines Theme For Facebook Profiles

Credit: Trend Micro

On clicking the link, users are redirected to another page to install the theme.

“Clicking the install button on the page will prompt the download of a malicious file, FacebookChrome.crx which Trend Micro detects as TROJ_FOOKBACE.A. When executed, TROJ_FOOKBACE.A executes a script that is capable of displaying ads from certain websites,” Christopher Talampas, fraud analyst at Trend Micro, wrote in a blog post.

While, he believes that the malicious browser extension doesn’t seem to have information theft capabilities, it does have the ability to monitor the user’s browsing activities and redirect them to a survey page asking them for their mobile number.

He noted that the attack works only on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers. Opening the Facebook link using internet Explorer will redirect users directly to the same survey bypassing the downloading steps.

“The fact that the attack itself is focused on Chrome and Firefox may mean that cybercriminals are targeting extension-compatible browsers, as well as going after more popular browser choices,” Christopher wrote.

“It fits the criteria of a clickjacking attack more, where it automatically ‘likes’ several Facebook pages as well as automatically posts a message on the affected user’s wall,” he added.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this scam may just be the beginning. I believe there are dozens of them out there already and many more to follow. So remember to use your judgement on Valentine’s posts/offers that prompt you to install something.

Independent studio NimbleBit, offers congratulations to Zynga for shamelessly ripping off their game, Tiny Tower, 2011′s iPhone game of the year.

Zyng’s latest game “Dream Height,” released last week in Canadian iTune App Store, bears a striking resemblence with Tiny Tower.

Although the games have different graphical styles, the basic gameplay and strategic elements are identical, which drew the ire of users who took to blogs and Twitter to voice their displeasure.

While NimbleBit employee Ian Marsh tweeted a comical and sarcastic comparison of the two games (check out the image below), David Marsh, another NimbleBit employee, tweeted his thoughful response:

“Even when you refuse to go work for Zynga, sometimes you end up doing work for Zynga anyway.”

dearzynga e1327470105989 Developers Congratulates Zynga For Ripping Off Their Game

This isn’t the first time Zynga has been accused of ripping off other games. But, almost all of their titles were well received by consumers. However, this is the first time a rival company has called them out in such a public and pointed way. Wonder if it would change anything.

There’s been no suggestion about NimbleBit seeking legal action against Zynga yet.

What do you think of Zynga’s actions? Do you think Dream Height will fare well?

A Thai man who married a corpse bride earlier this month has caused quite a stir after he released images and information on Facebook and Youtube.

Chadil Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, married his girlfriend of 10 years, Sarinya “Anne” Kamsok, as her corpse lay in a coffin at a temple in Surin Province, according to the Pattaya Daily News.

Deffy, a Thai television director, posted the video of the event that took place on Jan 4, 2012 on Facebook and YouTube.

Onsiri Pravattiyagul, wrote in an opinion piece in The Bangkok Post about the unusual ceremony.

“The ‘wedding’ was his attempt to right a wrong, however belated the gesture might have been.”

“As expected, the initial public reaction was an outpouring of sympathy for the ‘groom’ and a wave of sentimental remarks. The romantically inclined were moved by the expression of ‘true love,’ However unconventional.

“It seemed to hit a nerve with many people. The offline media picked up on the buzz, too, and went to town with this story. Chadil found himself under a spotlight experiencing an unexpected 15 minutes of fame.

“Also as expected, within days, the backlash began — and it wasn’t at all kind. In a heartbeat, Chadil went from being viewed as a hopeless romantic to being vilified as a publicity-hungry opportunist.”

Pravattigyagul went on to explain why he thought his “younger friend” was acting on love, not the ambition of publicity.

The bride and the groom reportedly fell in love while studying at the Eastern Asia University ten years ago. The couple had promised to get married, but the woman died in a car accident before they could manage to tie the knot.

I am sure you are probably astonished by the title of this post. I was too. I have checked it out and yes the site works only when you turn off your internet connection.

rajinikanth website Rajini Power: Website Runs Without Internet

A little about Rajikanth

He was a bus conductor before he became an actor. He is hailed as the most popular South Indian film actor. He is so popular, fans look up to him as a demigod. In 2007, he became the highest paid actor in Asia, after Jackie Chan, for his role in ‘Sivaji.’ He has starred in over 150 movies across various film industries. One of his movie, ‘Chandramukhi’ is notable for being the longest-running Tamil film in India, playing for a total of over 800 days.

His rags-to-riches-life story, humbleness, and larger-than -life roles in his movies are some of the reasons that made him so popular. He is so popular that there are tens of thousands of larger-than-life quips about his ability, which are very popular in India.

The site, allaboutrajni.com, contains some trivia, fun facts, quirky quotes about him. As I mentioned earlier, the site does not need internet connection since it is running on ‘Rajini power.’

“The unbelievable spectacle of running a website without the internet is a tribute to Rajinikanth’s larger than life image,” said Webchutney’s creative director Gurbaksh Singh who developed the site for Desimartini.

Here are some quips about his ability to prove what I mean:

  • When Rajnikanth logs on to Facebook.com, Facebook updates its status message!
  • If you spell “Rajanikanth” wrong on Google it doesn’t say, “Did you mean Rajinikanth?” It simply replies, “Run while you still have the chance.”
  • Rajinikanth has already been to Mars, that’s why there are no signs of life there.
  • If Rajinikanth was born 100 years earlier, British would have fought to get independence from India.
  • When Rajinikanth gives you the finger, he’s telling you how many seconds you have left to live.
  • Micheal Jordan to Rajini: I can spin a ball on my finger for over two hours. Can you?
Rajini: Rascala; how do you think the earth spins?

An Illinois man accidentally shot a nail into his brain, and he was completely unaware of it until he went for check-up after feeling nauseous the next day.

Dante Autullo, from Orland Park, Illinois, shot himself in the head with a nail gun when he was building a shed. He assumed the nail had missed and went out to plow some snow, the BBC News reported.

But the next day, he felt nauseous after a nap. So he went for a checkup. He thought the doctors were joking when they told him about the nail (3.25 inch) lodge in the middle of his brain.

He reportedly posted the picture of the X-ray on his Facebook page as he was rushed to another hospital for surgery. But, the X-ray was so shocking, that family friends though it was a hoax when he posted it on his Facebook wall.

While there are pain-sensitive nerves in the person’s skull, there are none within the brain, which explains what happened. Yet shocking, right?

See the X-ray here.
