Even the most skeptical of Facebook’s critics would have to agree that the new News Feed layout is beautiful. With bold pictures and plenty of clean and neutral space, the new News Feed design looks clean and interesting instead of the older design which sometimes looked messy and cluttered.
Pictures now take up the bulk of the content of the News Feed. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that around 50% of the new design revolves around pictures. In fact, he claimed that the new News Feed looks like a “personalized wallpaper”. Aside from the eye-catching imagery, the sidebar now looks like the one from Facebook Mobile. This is surely a welcome improvement that ensures the same look and feel for Facebook across all platforms.
Apart from the design tweaks implemented in this update, the News Feed also got a revamp of its content delivery algorithms so that now, you actually have new feeds to choose from. A feed known as “All Friends” delivers content from obviously all of your friends. A “Music” feed contains posts about what and who your friends are listening to as well as updates from your favorite (or Liked) bands and musicians.
Other feeds include the “Following” feed which feature updates from users that you follow. “Photos” for a wide variety of the latest uploads from your friends. Finally, the “Games” feed was not included in the announcements but reports from The Next Web show screenshots of the new Games feed. All in all, these new options allow users to have an incredible level of control over what news and content are posted on their feeds.
