Facebook has reported that they now have more than 1.28 billion users – that’s about 40 million more people than the current reported population of India, the world’s second most-populated country, with 1.24 billion.
Rise of the Facebook Apps
At 1.28 billion monthly active users, Facebook has more users than all of it’s competitors combined, especially with the recent purchase of WhatsApp.
Here are the user stats of the next 4 largest consumer apps – you’ll notice Facebook owns 3 of them:
- WhatsApp – 500 million users
- Twitter – 241 million users
- Instagram – 200 million users
- Facebook Messenger – 200 million users
Facebook has assembled a pretty attractive collection of mobile apps, including:
There are over 900 million people just using one of Facebook’s instant messaging apps alone. If you look at the aggregate numbers, Facebook has 1 billion more users than Twitter. And for the first time ever, Facebook has had over 1 billion people access Facebook on a mobile device at least once a month.
From this perspective, other companies in the space better be careful, or Facebook could continue to dominate the world of consumer mobile apps for a long time coming.
