It is definitely a growing virtual world in Facebook. We’ve got farms, yuppy villages, restaurants, cafes, islands, a place for pets, etc. As if it is not enough, Facebook now has Happy Hotel (Click HERE to play).
Happy Hotel is a social game with the goal of having a successful hotel business. Developed by Play Crab, it has 926,050 active users to date, growing at a rate of about 16% per week. Because of its increasing popularity, other developers have started to create hotel games, including Zynga who had already trademarked the names “HotelVille” and “Hotel World”.
There are four rooms to begin with. Three rooms are for guests, and the fourth room is for the hotel owner. Room rates depend on the quality of the furniture added. The fancier the decors are, the higher the room’s rate will be.
Of course, to earn points or virtual gold, your hotel must have tenants. There are three types of tenants: Regular Guests, Celebrities, and Friends. Friends are Facebook users. The remaining two kinds are non-player characters (NPC) which the users would need to “purchase”. Don’t worry, they will stay at the hotel more than once and get your investment back. “Expensive” characters provide higher tips, earning the hotel owner more gold. Celebrities are very expensive but the hotel owner can get their photos which can be exchanged for furniture. There are a lot of fun celebrity characters like Confucius and Marilyn Monroe!
As the players upgrade their hotel, their experience also increases.
The game appears to be mainly for Chinese players. However, the directions and tutorials are in English.
Since Happy Hotel is quite new, there are adjustments to be made, especially in terms of the tutorials. The longevity of this application, though, still depends on the taste of Facebook’s users.
