“Weeds Social Club”, a new Facebook game launched.

June 28, 2011

With the success and flying of virtual gaming, Farm Ville, players can now upgrade themselves to a new Facebook gameWeeds Social Club”. The game was launched on Monday, June 27 and is based on the hit TV series “Weeds”. The game will allow eager fans and users to buy and plant different strands of marijuana and then grow it for sale.

In this game, players can visit to different places to buy different pot. They can buy seeds, raise the seedlings and harvest a mature crop. Players can set their own market rate for weed and decides to whom they want to sell it to and on how much risk they want to take when selling it. The money that the players earn selling their weed can be spent on virtual flat-screen TVs, bongs and other accessories and they can even spent real-world money to buy digital game points.

Unlike Farmville, players can access to Nancy Botwin, the lead character in the TV series, with problems relating to police and organised crime. Players can also get tips in the game from Andy Botwin, another character from the “Weed” show. According to Curt Marvis, producer of Weeds: “In the social realm, it’s a living, breathing experience, one where you get a fan base of engaged users”.

“Weeds Social Club” is not the only game that makes drug dealing into a Facebook gaming experience. The old-school “Dope Wars”, a Zynga game, also allowed players to sell cocaine, heroin, acid, speed and Quaalude, as well as marijuana.

The game has been approved by Facebook and it doesn’t break any kind of laws as insisted by the creator of the game. It is available in its beta form on Facebook as of now and its launch coincides with the launch of the new season of “Weeds”, which follows the life of a pot-selling mother. The game developer, Ecko Code, also plans to launch more games based on other Showtime hits, including “Dexter”.
