Facebook Privacy Settings: Newsfeeds And Wall Privacy Settings

November 9, 2009

By default, your Wall is visible to anyone who can see your profile which means that only your friends or people connected to you will be able to see your wall as they have access to your profile by default. You can put a restriction by editing your “Wall Posts” setting available in your “Profile settings”.

In this tutorial, we will see the different privacy options available in the “News feed and Wall” privacy settings. To go to this setting:
1. Click on “Settings” and select “Privacy Settings.”
2. Under Privacy settings page, select “News feed and wall” option.

Once you have gone through the given steps you will come to a page like the image given below.

You will see a list of activities that will generate stories on your wall and your friends wall. Ample description is given in the page, so it will not be a problem to decide what to keep and what not to keep.

On the right hand side you will see two sections. Top section shows a list of activities that will not generate any stories whatsoever. In the bottom section you will see a list of applications that you use or have used in the recent past which will publish stories on your wall. Editing application settings will be discussed in the next tutorial.

Now, if you uncheck any of the listed activity, no one will ever see a notification or story about you and that particular activity. For example, if you remove the check for “Change relationship status”, no one will ever see a news feed or wall story whenever you edit your relationship status. Your friends will of course find out that you have changed your relationship status if they go and check your profile information.

For your information, Facebook does not allow you to block every activity that you do on Facebook. There are certain activities which will generate stories and you will not be able to block them. Your account will always generate stories when you:
1. Add something to your profile
2. Join a network
3. Update your status (your status messages or things that you publish in your publisher)
4. Add or remove an application

Adding something to your profile includes uploading photos and videos etc. But this does not mean everyone on your friend list will see it unless of course your profile privacy settings are using the default settings. If you have blocked someone from seeing your photos and videos, those people will not get any news feed whenever you upload any new photo or videos.

So what i want you to remember is, make use of  both your “Profile privacy settings” and “News feed and wall” settings to achieve a more specific privacy option.

I don’t have this option either and I don’t care to have people see all my comments I make to other peoples wall/status/Like etc…. I also don’t care to see everyone elses comments.

Where can these privacy settings be changed under the new changes?

It’s been removed, and people aren’t happy (no response from Facebook)…This was very sneaky of them! http://tinyurl.com/ye4kqmr

I for one want it back. I have reasons that I want “everybody” to see who’s status, pics, etc., that I have commented on. I also lost the ability to have my photo albums visible by “everyone”. Give us back this option and those that don’t want it can simply change their privacy settings accordingly.

I had mine set to private because I don’t want some people from my past to know where I live. Now this is happening and putting mine and my daughters safety at risk. I may just have to delete the account all together…
