Dog Finds Owner Through Facebook After 10 Years

November 3, 2009

After a decade living on the streets, a dog named Brindle finally finds his way home, with the help of Facebook.

This past Sunday, Gary Rowley was reunited with his dog Brindle after being apart for almost 10 years.

The last time Gary Rowley saw Brindle, was at the end of January in 1999.  Brindle had managed to use his nose to open a door in Rowley’s home.  Rowley thought that he had lost Brindle forever, until he received a strange message on Facebook.

An Oklahoma military family had sent Rowley a message on Facebook, asking if he ever had a dog named Brindle.  The family had discovered Brindle hiding under a bush and, after a veterinarian used a microchip in Brindle’s neck to identify him, the family used Facebook to track Rowley down.

An animal lover in Virginia heard of Brindle’s story and offered to fly to Oklahoma and drive him back to Rowley’s Virginia home.

“He needed a way home,” Brindle’s driver said.  “If the dog can wander 1,300 plus miles in 10 years I can certainly spend a few days driving.”

No one knows how Brindle managed to travel so far, but with the help of Facebook he has finally managed to find his way home.
