We have previously reported that a recent Facebook update would now allow you to make your Facebook status updates more evocative. You can now tell exactly what you’re watching, what you’re reading and more. In a recent update by Facebook, update options are expanded even more, giving you exponentially more options to play around when updating your Facebook status.
The remarkable thing regarding the recent update is that it is completely cohesive with Facebook’s focus for this year, books, movies and fitness. In a previous report that we had featuring Facebook’s Vice President of Partnerships, Dan Rose, he said that 2013 will be the year of music, books, and fitness. With this recent Facebook update, it does seem to be so.
The new common actions added to Facebook’s array are understandably for those three areas then. For the fitness category, “run, walk and bike” are the new additions. “Read, rate, quote, want to read” are the add-ons for books. For movies and TV, “rate, want to watch” are added to the mix.
The other great thing with this update is that it is fully integrated with some of the best lifestyle apps on Facebook right now. For example, instead of a bland post about you going for a run, you can detail every grueling yard of your sprint with integration of the NikeFuel app.
The rate option for books, TV shows and movies are another huge game-changer for Facebook’s part. Instead of an enigmatic Like, rating now assigns a quantifiable score to shows or books that users have enjoyed. This is a big step up for Facebook’s part as it can then leverage this massively from recommending relevant shows to users to giving advertisers custom audiences.
According to the official Facebook developer blog, Jawbone UP, Runkeeper, Endomondo, Kobo, GoodReads, Rotten Tomatoes, and Hulu are all part of this new update and more are expected to join. With a plethora of top-tier brands utilizing Facebook’s Custom Actions, it seems like an exciting time to update your Facebook status.
