Facebook Fellowship Program: Tapping into Bright Minds

We all know that going to school is oftentimes not the best decision for our pockets. Thankfully, there are kind souls who help our kind by having scholarship and fellowship programs.

Today, Facebook announced its 2010-2011 school year Fellowship program for full-time doctorate students in the US, involved in on-going research. These students should be nominated by a faculty member and should be involved in any of the following topics:

  • Internet Economics – auction and algorithmic game theories related to online advertising auctions
  • Social Computing – algorithms, models, and systems of social networks, social media, and social search, as well as collaborative environment
  • Cloud Computing – databases, storage, optimization for computing massively distributed environments
  • Data Mining and Machine Learning – feature generation, learning algorithms, and assessment techniques for the creation of effective online and offline models of behavioral signals
  • Information Retrieval – information extraction, search algorithms, question answering, cross-lingual and multimedia retrieval
  • Systems – quick, efficient, scalable data center support involving hardware, operating systems, runtime, and language

The Fellowship program is available to 5 students and will cover the following:

  • Tuition and other fees for one academic year
  • $30,000 stipend
  • $5,000 for a computer
  • $5,000 for travel and conference expenses
  • A chance to get into paid internship at Facebook summer after the school year
