Facebook Images Of Arrested Women In Police Uniforms

December 16, 2009

Three officers Burton-on-Trent police station have been disciplined following images of women posing in police uniforms were posted on Facebook.

The pictures showed the women in miniskirts wearing high-visibility jackets and police hats and one a woman posing next to a patrol car. They were reportedly taken when a woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and four others were taken to the station.

Staffordshire Police said three officers were “spoken to” and moved to new roles after the incident on 5 December at Burton-on-Trent station.

“We are obviously aware of, and concerned by, the photographs that have been published and the potential impact these could have on the women themselves, the officers involved and, most importantly, wider public confidence.

“We have carried out a swift and detailed internal investigation to establish the facts of what happened.

“Both the force and the officers involved very much regret the negative way that the photographs, and the circumstances they were taken in, could be perceived.”
