Facebook is said to be testing out a new feature called “Subscribe To”, according to guys at All Facebook.
This new feature is currently said to be in the process of testing and is available to few Facebook users, as Facebook always does before rolling out any new feature or updates.
With this new feature, a user will be able to follow the updates of their friends or fan Pages more closely, by subscribing to their friends and Facebook Pages and receive alerts(notification in the notification bar) whenever they updates their status or post photos, videos, links, or notes.
If Facebook roll out this feature then it could impact the growth of Twitter since it is somewhat like Twitter’s follow feature, but that will be seen in the future. Moreover, one cannot say that Facebook is going to roll out everything it test. News about Facebook working on a Twitter-like follow feature on Facebook came out last year, but died out.
Infact, whether you have noticed or not, when you send a friend request to someone, you will get updates of their account activity if your request is queued, i.e. if the person neither accept or rejects your friend request. Moreover, Facebook users get updates from Pages they subscribed to and the people they are connected to, but for many people (gamers) the updates are more of a spam.
This new “Subscribe To” feature, on the bright side, will definitely be a blessing to make sure that every update of some particular friend is not lost in the pages and pages of feeds generated on a daily basis. One the dark side, this new feature can prove to be a terrible stalking tool.
Moreover, Facebook has not long ago renovated the notification bar to make it more cleaner. If this new feature rolls out, i am afraid, Fan page updates will surely turn the notification bar messier than before
