Facebook On-The-Go with the Blackberry Smartphone

February 23, 2010

Who does not know what Facebook is, these days? Almost everyone has a Facebook profile. From students to politicians, even dogs have their own profiles managed by their owners. To date, it has more than 400 million active users around the world.

But what if you do not have an internet connection? Or even a computer? This is why Research In Motion (RIM) founder, Mike Lizaridis, has teamed up with Facebook co-founder, Dustin Moskovitz, and designed a Facebook application specifically designed to for BlackBerry (and it is not just a WAP version of the site).

This application boasts of having the Facebook you experience on your PC on the palm of your hand, wherever you might be. They have integrated notifications and messages in the push-based architecture of the BlackBerry. With a graphical interface, major functions of the system are represented by icons.

So what are the features of this Facebook BlackBerry app? For starters, there are the basic ones normally present on the regular PC Facebook site: update or view your status, post and tag photos, send and receive messages, add friends, and organize Facebook events.

This free application, being specifically designed for BlackBerry to access the site, promises a fast and streamlined access to Facebook. There are, however, a few system requirements to use this application: A Facebook account (naturally), a wireless data service plan from a wireless service provider, a BlackBerry smartphone with 64MB of memory and 882KB of available smartphone memory, and a BlackBerry Device Software Version 4.2.

With over 14 million monthly active users, this application is the third most popular Facebook app. To get the app, click HERE. Or, would you rather be left behind?
