Facebook Virus Alert

October 29, 2009

Last week there were reports of a new kind of scam on Facebook. This particular scam masks itself as an email from Facebook, however it contains a virus as an attachment.

Today Facebook has alerted users to two new viruses that they have recently become aware of. Facebook said

“Watch out for two new viruses that are spreading across the web. They involve emails made to look like they are from Facebook telling you to take some action on your account. Remember that we will never send you a new password as an attachment.”

For the best information on what these threats are, and how to protect yourself, visit the Facebook Security Page.

If you have been a victim of any of these Facebook email viruses, please let us know in the comments.

I’ll check back later. I have to get up and go to work in three hours. This really really bothers me.

Well, I am so frustrated, because I cannot get to my default apple start page. I got a New IMAC a little over a year ago, thought a Mac would be more stable. Suddenly I can’t get on apple, at all to check for updates which might be able to fix my problem. Also, I can’t login on Facebook, either. For both the Apple page (including the apple support page) and the Facebook page, I get blank screens. When I try to do an update, the bar showing “checking for updates” just gets stuck. I so hope there isn’t some facebook virus that affects other pages, too. I can still get onto the internet through google, fortunately. Just facebook and apple addresses don’t work so far.

I got one from a friend this morning that was masked as a message which I opened, it then took me to a very strange site that looked kind of like u-tube. I am running my anti virus program now, hopefully no damage, as I deleted it very quickly. I also keep getting a virus message when I go into my home page on FB, only once in a while though, usually when I am going in and out of friends profiles writing messages etc, or playing some zynga games, then when I click on “home” a virus message comes up.

If I click on “deny access” in my virus alert box it takes me to some very strange sites – last night it was called Chinese Sex Culture. I shut FB down after that as I don’t need to see that.
