A no-nonsense father from North Carolina is making national headlines after he posted a video response to his daughter’s “disrespectful” Facebook rant.

Tommy Jordan said his 15-year-old daughter, Hannah, wrote a letter entitled “Dear Parents” on Facebook complaining about the chores she had to do around the house.

According to a report on ninemsn, Hannah blocked her parents from seeing it, but her father, an IT professional, somehow managed to view the post.

The father upset about the rant took his frustration on her daughter’s laptop, in what he described as a dose of “tough love”.

Jordan filmed an 8-minute video response to Hannah’s letter and posted it on her wall for all her friends to see.

In the video, he reads out his daughter’s letter and says, “I don’t know how to say how disappointed I am in you, and how disrespectful you were to every single adult in your life.”

Kid, you’ve got it easy, way easy. It’s about to get harder, it’s about to get a whole lot harder.”

Mr Jordan then pulls out a handgun and shoots nine bullets into Hannah’s computer, including “one from mum.”

The video titled “Facebook parenting: For the troubled teen” has gone viral on YouTube with over 800,000 views in just two days.

Mr Jordan’s post on Facebook that read, “Today was probably the most disappointing day of my life as a father and I don’t know how to correct the situation. Since I can’t seem to make any headway with my daughter on Facebook, I chose instead to remedy the problem permanently,” with a link to the YouTube video has also attracted more than 13,000 likes, about 6000 shares, and almost 7000 comments at the time of writing.

While some feels that the action was immature, most comments praised his action.

What do you think about this “Facebook Parenting?”

Cybercriminals are selling bulk log-in credentials of social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, and web server management software cPanel.

Security company Trusteer says it has discovered evidence of “factory outlets” where the information are being put up for sale at wholesale rate using underworld advertisements. The information were also available in country-specific batches at $30 a log-in.

Login credentials of financial sites are more valuable to most cybercriminals. The information is harvested by infecting systems with Trojans such as Zeus or SpyEye. These malwares also captures the login credentials used on the victim’s machine to access other websites, in addition to online banking credentials.

To monetize the login credentials that pile up, fraudsters have started setting up “Factory Outlets” to sell them off,” Amit Klein, Trusteer’s chief technical officer, wrote in a blog.

He stress that the offering of cPanel credentials was particularly worrisome.

Fraudsters can use the account logins for web hosting admin system like cPanel to hijack a website and “plant malicious codes on these sites … that can exploit browser vulnerabilities and infect machines through drive-by-downloads.” The next step, in common practice, would be to “lure victims to the site through phishing emails and social network messages,” infecting the victims machines to carry out attacks and start over the vicious cycle.

Having access to bulk social network accounts can also be used for spamming and spreading scams on the sites.

This latest development provides a window into the vast cybercrime aftermarket that has risen up on the internet and been made possible by sophisticated malware. Whether it’s bulk drive-by download infections, bulk login credentials, pre-built web-injects, etc., criminals today have an unprecedented arsenal of tools at their disposal to attack banks and enterprises,” Amit wrote.

Facebook officials told Trusteer that it actively detects known malware on users’ devices and validates every login to the site to check for malicious activity.

A new study contributes mobile and Facebook apps for creating almost half a million jobs in the U.S. in the last 5 years.

It’s been only 5 years since the first iPhone was launch back in 2007. In those days many think of application as something one needs to fill up to apply for jobs. 5 year from then, the first thing that pops into our mind when we here the word “application or apps” are those little softwares that we now can’t live without.

The demand for applications for everything – games, personal and business management, marketing, work, communication, quantum physics – has boosted the “app economy” creating 455,000 jobs in the U.S. since 2007, according to an analysis released Tuesday by technology trade group TechNet.

TechNet found that for every technology job created by the App Economy, a second job is created in a non-technology field.

TechNet says the so-called “App Economy” is still in the early stages of boom and is like to last for many more years, depending on the future of wireless and social networks.

The study also reveals California has the highest concentration of app economy jobs at 23.8 per cent, with a total of 14.8 per cent being in the San Francisco Bay Are, home to Silicon Valley. But, the app economy jobs, in general, are spread around the country.

The findings come from a 17-page study titled “Where the Jobs Are“, sponsored by TechNet and conducted by Dr. Michael Mandel of South Mountain Economics.

New In Town, is the latest Facebook game from social game developer Digital Chocolate. It is a life simulation game that challenges players to take another shot at their life – at least virtually.

Here is a short tutorial-cum-review, which hopefully will be of some help to you. Well, the tutorial is bit lengthy. So, only thumbnails are provided for the screenshots. Click on them to enlarge the thumbnails.

Fresh out of college, it’s time to get into real life virtually … oh i liked the sound of that. Finding jobs, acquiring new skills, keeping your stomach stuff and making sure you have good rest, soicalizing, working hard and making sure you chill out a times, and paying rent are some of the things you will be doing often in the game.

New In Town map New In Town: Starters Guide And Game Review

Game Basics: Time
Everything you do in the game require a specific amount of time, which is of course limited. You are free to do anything you want as long as you have the time. Once your time runs out, you have to call quits for the day and get a good night rest.

Here are few factors that affect the amount of time you have per game day, called as time units.
- At the beginning of the game, the highest number of time you have per day is 1,000 units.
- Ending the day with an empty stomach or with an unhappy life will result in deduction of time units the next day. Going hungry will deduct 100 time units, while having your happiness meter rating below 750 point threshold will also deduct time according to the number of happiness units below the threshold level.
- If you go to bed with some time to spare, you get an “early bed bonus” and receive 50 extra time units the next day.
- Any action you perform, apart from buying things, cost you 100 time units. Working, taking class, and watching movie are some examples.
- Travelling also needs time, and the amount of time deducted will depend on the distance you travel.
- Visiting friends and performing actions at your friend’s house will not eat up you time. Performing tasks at your friends place with earn you happiness points instead.

New In Town day summary 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewQuick Tip: You can still perform one action even if you have less than 100 time units, but more than 0. It is always good to go to bed with few time units remaining for the “early bed bonus”. Once you start progressing and the gym is unlocked, enroll for classes as soon as you can. This is where you can increase the maximum time units.

Types of Days
The game has two types of days – working days and leisure days.
Normally, you can have a maximum of four working days. One working day will be deducted when you start a new day, a working day is recharged over a period of 30 minutes, real time. When you level up, your maximum working day will increase by 1.

When you run out of working days, your time unit’s bar will change from green to purple, indicating that it’s leisure day. As the name suggest, during leisure days, you can check out the city but will not be able to perform jobs like working, taking classes, or go looking for jobs.

Commuting
Commuting can be real pain and time consuming. So, be sure to get a cheap roller or skateboard early in the game. It will help you decrease your travel time, giving you more time to perform other actions. Hover over a location and the amount of time units required to reach that location from your present location will be displayed.

Work and Skills
New In Town courses 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewIf you are to succeed in the game and reach your dreams, you will need a job to support yourself. Head over to the city hall, where you will find different types of jobs. Hovering over a job will provide you further information on the job. You can apply and accept jobs at the city hall. Once you have accepted a job, go to your town view and look for a dollar sign on a building. Go there, and click on the character with a dollar sign above them. Click on the work button to perform a job.

Working on a job will increase your proficiency at that job. Your skill proficiency at that is shown at the bottom left corner of your work window. When you become an expert at that job, you will receive $1 expert bonus plus your standard wage. Becoming an expert at a job will help you in getting the higher level jobs.

New In Town character stats 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewThere are three main character skills that will affect the your eligibility for applying to various jobs. You can improve your character skills by completing various course at the college. Remember that you can improve your charisma by your outfit also. Charisma will also determine the number of friends you have.

Challenges/Missions
New In Town game challenges 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewHow you play the game and at what pace you progress depends on you. But, you will receive healthy challenges from NPCs making you rush at times But, the many rewards that include cash, happiness points, and even extra working day awaits you if you win the challenges. These challenges/missions will also serve as a tutorial for you. So, don’t ignore them.

Happiness
New In Town food 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewHappiness will influence a lot on your game progress. So, balancing your work and leisure time will be difficult at times but necessary.
Working costs you 60 happiness points for every work action you perform, which you can balance out through several ways that include eating, buying items, taking care of your pets and plants, helping friends, and hanging out with friends.

Watching movies or going for a pizza with your friends (NPCs and neighbors) are, as I found out, the quickest way to increase your happiness at the beginning of the game. Remember, that if you retire for the day with your happiness level below the threshold (750 points), time units will be deducted the next day.

Social factor/Friends
What is a social game without friends? Socializing with friends is a great way to become a happier person in New In Town. The game offers several ways to socialize like hanging out with friends, throwing parties, and dating and all the things that follows.

New In Town socializing 150x150 New In Town: Starters Guide And Game ReviewYou also have the usual gifting, bonus sharing, visiting and helping elements in the game to help you progress faster.

New In Town, as a life simulation game, comes with a different spin compared to most social games. The game is easy to learn but hard to master. Game graphics are nice and easy on the eyes. Game menus and icons are pretty self-explanatory and easy to access.

Game challenges can really challenge a player and hook them to the game. The game is addictive. One of the best things about life simulation game is the many, many options/ways available for gameplay, progress and ending … if it ever ends. Just taking another shot at life, even if it is virtually, lure me into playing it and so far I love this game.

I hope you have found this guide and review useful. Do share your thoughts or any tips you have with our other readers. Game on!

Facebook has begun rolling out update for its photo viewer that displays comments and ads on the right side of the photo.

The new photo viewer looks very much like the one Google+ currently offers, and some are saying it’s a rip off Google+.

Up till now, comments and ads were shown beneath photos. The new update brings the comments on the right side of the photo, followed by ads. The ads are pushed down as comments on the photo grows. The option for “tagging” and adding “location” appears on the top of the right hand section whenever applicable.

Facebook mobile users can expect ads on their phones by March 2012.

The social networking giant, according to Financial Times, is looking to generate revenue either from its mobile site or app.

fbmobile Mobile Facebookers May See Ads By MarchThe rumor is, Facebook is planning to test the water with Sponsored Stories, which if you recall was launched on the desktop version of Facebook in early 2011.

“We believe that we may have potential future monetization opportunities such as the inclusion of sponsored stories in users’ mobile News Feeds,” Facebook hinted its IPO filing.

About 425 million monthly active users, which is nearly half of the total Facebook user base, use its mobile products and Facebook cannot ignore that.

But the big question is whether this move will settle in well with the users when their precious 3.5-inch screen estate is invaded with ads?

Facebook definitely has a very big challenge ahead. Hopefully, Mark Zuckerber and his team with their Hacker’s way of life will come up with something that won’t make an angry mob out of its users.

Do you use Facebook mobile app? What do you think about this new move the company is considering?
