Civilization is a turn-based strategy game. The goal of the game is to create a civilization that will triumph over others. A win is obtained through four different ways:
- Domination (capture all enemies’ capital cities);
- Culture (build the United Nations wonder and have 20 great persons, wonders, and/or converted cities);
- Economic (gain 20,000 gold and build the World Bank wonder); and
- Technological (be the first to reach Alpha Centauri).
Unless otherwise stated, all four victory conditions are allowed to be utilized. Different civilizations have different advantages over the others.
Sid Meier, creator of Civilization and director of Firaxis stated that the company, together with 2K Games, is making a free-to-play version of the said game to be launched on Facebook within this year.
According to Meier, since they finished Civilization Revolution last 2008, the company has been looking for means of developing the Civilization game to contain solo, competitive, and cooperative play, and to grab the opportunities that the social network has to offer. Meier said that this project will be called the Civilization Network.
The game will be a multiplayer game, allowing Facebook users to interact, coordinate strategies, and share technologies in battles. Friends can participate in elections, help in managing resources, and assist in espionage and/or the construction of the Wonders of the World.
