For the third straight year Facebook tops the list of most searched term in the U.S. “Facebook” and Facebook-related terms accounted for four of the top 10 most frequently searched terms in 2011.

A report from Experian Hitwise found the three other Facebook-related terms that booked a spot on the top 10 list were “facebook login” at No. 3, “facebook.com” at No.5 and “www.facebook.com” at No.8. The social network giant accounted for 4.18% of the top 50 searches.

The list of of Top 10 most-searched terms in the US for the year 2010 and 2011 are:

Facebook also retained the No. 1 spot as the most-visited website in the US. Facebook drew 10.29 percent of all internet visits in the United States from January to November 2011 – a 15 percent increase from 2010. Followed by Google.com (7.70 percent) – a 7 percent increase, YouTube (3.17 percent), Yahoo! Mail (2.95 percent) and Yahoo! (2.47 percent). All the top 10 sites of 2010 managed to remained on the list except for www.myspace.com which made way for www.gmail.com, indicating its decrease in popularity.

“Other top 2011 searches reflect ongoing fascination with celebrities online, and many of the top fast-moving searches centered on natural disasters or notable personalities passing away,” Hitwise found.

Facebook emerged as the most sought after brand in the UK, beating YouTube to take the top spot.

A report from web analytics firm Experian Hitwise revealed that social media platforms were the most popular websites amongst Britons in 2010.

Facebook accounted for 3.5 percent of all searches made by Britons on Google, Yahoo and Bing in 2010. Taking into account the misspellings and abbreviations, Facebook accounts for approximately 6% of all search engine queries.

YouTube, whose searches accounts for 1% of all internet queries took the second place.

Online auction site eBay, and online retailers Amazon and Argos followed to form the list of top five most searched brand in UK in 2010.
