Shaker, a Facebook social game won the prestigious TechCrunch Disrupt competition 2011, held in San Francisco for startup firms. Shaker won the Disrupt Cup from among 31 startup competitors and takes home $50,000.
Shaker brings Facebook user into a new virtual pub with avatar-based chat rooms where they can move around and socialized with other people. Here it brings new interactivity to redefine Facebook.
TechCrunch writes, “Shaker is a mixture of Second Life, The Sims, and Turntable.fm all mixed together using your Facebook data and connections. Your Facebook profile becomes a walking avatar, your pictures are placed on a virtual wall, you can choose what music is playing in the room for everyone to hear and you can even buy people drinks.”
Yonatan Maor, the site’s chief executive, claimed: that the site is just for flirting, not really for dating. But since these are real people, he said, users will quickly move off of the virtual dance floor and into real life.
Though there is a little controversy on Shaker winning the Disrupt Cup, but on winning this competition, it has open a new horizon for Shaker to make every endeavor in moving forward with the gain exposure and publicity. When the app is open to the larger audience, we expect the company will do away with all traction and offer much to its anticipated fans.
