fb whodeletedme Facebook Application That Keep Tracks Of Who Defriends YouIt is no doubt Facebook users always wanted to know who have been visiting their profile, but it is not possible, and applications that offers this service does not/cannot exists. But, have you ever wondered or wanted to know who has defriended you?

A new Facebook app called “Who Deleted Me” enables users to keep track of people who has unfriend them on Facebook. The application is accompanied by a website.

The app offering the free service was developed by Nikolay Dimitrov. He works as a developer for New Brand Vision Group – a creative design and web marketing agency, the brains behind the new Davis Cup website for the International Tennis Federation.

“I got the idea from my own curiosity of wanting to know who had de-friended me on Facebook,” bizcommunity quotes Dimitirov.

“One day I woke up and my friend count had dropped from 280 to 278 and I just couldn’t figure out who had deleted me! While there seemed to have been a lot of attempts made in the past to leverage this kind of data, none felt straightforward enough to make me want to use them, which is why I created my own. Who Deleted Me is designed to keep an automated track on Facebook de-friends, and delivers an update directly to your inbox – but only if activity has actually taken place, we don’t want to spam users unnecessarily.”

The service has been officially approved by Facebook and is listed in the application directory.

In a bid to tackle the growing cases of high-profile cyber bullying, and many cases leading to teen suicides, leading web-based online monitoring software SafetyWeb.com introduce a new “Find Help” application on Facebook.

The application allows users to quickly report any violation to Facebook officials while also connecting to leading safety and crisis support organizations related to cyber bullying, child exploitation, suicide and depression, child abuse, runaways, drug abuse, hate issues, alcohol abuse and LGBT issues.

Clicking on the app brings up links for Facebook Abuse Reporting process and useful numbers of Organizations including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Only a few out of thousand bully victims usually find the strength to self-report incidents, while many don’t know where to turn to.

Putting such apps in the hand of tweens and teens will hopefully make it easier for them to report abusive incidents and also seek help and guidance earlier and in more numbers.

Parents can do they part in encouraging their children to add a bookmark of the application and explaining more about its use.

BitDefender, one of the top-rated security solution companies, launched a Facebook application to keep your Facebook’s account secure from virus, worms and other types of risks that are spread mainly through shared links on Facebook. The application called SafeGo is currently in free public beta.

The app displays your account’s privacy meter and recent activities, infected items, and other statistics.

On clicking the “Scan Now” button, the app will scan and report infectious items within your account. The bad thing is, the app doesn’t have the ability to flag dangerous items when you are browsing other’s profile, which is something not possible to incorporate within an app with the Facebook’s API on which apps are built.

The app also features a section for “Latest Threats,” which is currently not working, but will most probably feature threats found by the apps on other Facebook users.

fb safego interface 300x297 BitDefender Launches Facebook Security Application

I tried the app as I found it pretty alluring to know how my account is doing in terms of security, sadly the results turned up “Squeaky Clean. Check back soon!” But it was fun waiting for the result. The app also features a 5-question quiz called “Who is your evil twin” that displays your evil alter ego – worm, keylogger, virus, trojan or so on.

The good thing about this app is, you can know about potential infected links on your news feed posted by friends and delete them, as well as warn your friends about it.

The bad thing is the app accesses too much information of your account. Before installing the app, it will ask your permission for the following:

If you don’t feel threatened by the amount of information the app is going to access, you can check it out.

So, we finally have some security helps on Facebook to help us take care of potential threats from shared links and know your true self (evil net ego icon smile BitDefender Launches Facebook Security Application ). It is also worth mentioning that Norton also has similar product for Facebook called Norton SafeWeb that is installed as part of Norton AntiVirus 2011 and Norton Internet Security 2011. It can also be downloaded separately for free.

Facebook disabled many applications over this weekend. Apps developed by LOLapps, including its popular title “Critter Island” were shutdown by Facebook.

According to a blog on the develper site, all the LOLapps games are now up and running. The blog says:

“It has been a big weekend in the news for privacy and Facebook applications. As tonight’s Facebook developer blog post states, ‘In most cases, developers did not intend to pass this information, but did so because of the technical details of how browsers work.” This statement applies to Lolapps.

When we were informed of the issue the relationship that put us into this category was immediately dissolved. Since Lolapps was founded in 2008, we have always been committed to Facebook’s platform policies and will continue to be as we grow.”

It is surprising though, leading games like FarmVille or other Zynga’s apps didn’t receive such disruptions, even though WSJ listed them.

A study on the behavior of Facebook users indicated that users influence each other when it comes to adding applications.

The study was reportedly carried out on the data collected over two months in 2007, when Facebook had 2720 applications and 50 million users. Over the two months, a computer was set to monitor Facebook on an hourly basis and record how many of the 50 million users had signed up for each app.

Analysis of the data showed two distinct results. Users did not seem to influence each other’s when installing applications which are below a certain threshold of popularity (55 installations a day). But, once an app crosses the 55-installation-a-day mark, social influence come into play at large, driving the popularity of the app further.

The study concludes that social influence plays a key role in the adoption of an app once it reaches a certain level of popularity.

Reading about this study made me realized one thing. There’s got to be some cool apps and games on Facebook that I haven’t checked out yet icon smile Study: Popularity Influences App Adoption On Facebook . Let us know how true the findings are in regard to your app adoption on Facebook.
