The chat feature is located at the bottom right side of a facebook page. It looks like this 
. The number in the bracket indicates the number of friends that are online at the moment.
1. Click on the chat icon.
2. A menu will come up with the list of all your friends who are online.
3. Click on the name or picture of your friend. A pvt. chat window will open.
4. Type your message and hit enter, to send the message.
The chat window doesn’t contain any option to send smileys, emotions or emoticons, whatever people calls it 
, but you can still use some of the popular emoticons. A list of emoticons can be found in the next tutorial.
Managing your chats
When you click on the chat icon, you will see two option on the top of the menu that comes up, ‘Friends list’ and ‘Options’.
Friends List: This option can be used to create groups, or to categorize your friends. Click on the ‘Friends Lists’ option and type a name and press ‘Enter’ to make a new group. When you are done open your chat dialog and click and drag your friends into the newly made group/category. The effect of changes made in the chat dialog will be seen in your Friends section of your profile and vice verse.
Options : Let’s look at them one by one.
Go offline : Selecting this option makes you invisible to your friends, a great help when you are really busy with something else.
Re-order List : This option allows you to arrange the groups you have made.
Pop Out Chat: This option will open the chat window in a new browser filling your entire screen and you might even forget that you are chatting in facebook
Play Sound For New Messages: On checking this feature, a sound plays to notify you whenever you receive a new message.
Keep Online Friends Window Open: Haven’t really seen any difference using this option.
Show Only Names in Online Friends: Displays only the names of your friends. Their profile image will not be displayed.
