Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook fan page was apparently hacked yesterday by someone who posted the following message:

Let the hacking begin: If facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a ‘social business’ the way Nobel Price winner Muhammad Yunus described it? http://bit.ly/fs6rT3 What do you think? #hackercup2011

The bit.ly link points to Wiki entry of ‘social business‘ and the #hackercup2011 apparently referring to the Facebook’s Hackers Cup competition.

The fan Page was taken down quickly, but not quick enough. Mashable pointed out with a screen shot that by the time it was taken down 1,803 people “liked” the message and 438 people had commented on it.

Facebook has made no comment on the message so far.

From the second Norwegian men’s curling team hit the ice, they hit a chord on the people around the world and all eyes were set on the team’s funky, diamond-print, multi-colored argyle pants.

Norway Mens Curling Team 300x208 Vancouvers Crazy Pants Goes Viral On Facebook

Norwegian curlers, from left, Haavard Vad Petersson, Thomas Ulsrud, Torger Nergaard, and Christoffer Svae at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Appreciation for the team’s bold uniform is now going viral on Facebook. A Facebook group dedicated to the pants, “The Norwegian Olympic Curling Team’s Pants“  had amassed almost 504,000 members.

Norway’s King Harald V reportedly visited the team this week and asked to be presented with a pair.

Apart from the many humorous post and links to videos posted on the group’s page, the page also features a link to buy the pants.

The team is not entirely famous because of their crazy pants. Norway has become a sensation at the Vancouver Games as much for its pants as its strong performance on the ice.

As a matter of fact, the guys with bold fashion statements are going for the gold tomorrow against the Canadian team. Will they be able pull this one off?

What can Facebook users do with the website?

A lot of things of course.

Here is one. Two weeks ago, on 3rd February 2010, a woman named Coral Anne, set out on a mission to create a Facebook fan page with more fans than Nickelback.

Mission successful on 19th February 2010. Her page entitled “Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback?” exceeded Nickelback’s fan page of 1.4 million fans.

Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback Vs Nickleback 300x163 Pickle Beats Nickelback! What Now?

A Facebook user posted a link to the screencap of a Facebook message from a Chad Kroeger (not sure whether from the real one or some angry fan) and the page creator.

“Your page will be closed in 2 weeks,” writes Chad Kroeger

“I still whooped your ass,Chad!” Anne replies.

Although mission successful, word has it that Nickelback is trying to shut down the page. One can see a lot of anti-Nickelback comment on the ‘Pickle’ page too.

This, making of buzz about shutting down the page and the message between Chad Kroeger and the page creator, according to Conflict In The Sky blog is just a marketing gimmick for selling T-shirts.

I believe, Nickelback has nothing to worry about having a less fan base than non-music something or rather the band might be mightily amuse and happy by the media buzz their band is getting because of this.

Moreover, this is not the first time such pages were created on Facebook.

Though the buzz and the race was enlightening, it would be great to see people united for a cause that affects the way people think and conduct themselves with issues like global warming, online safety, poverty and hunger etc.

Music fans are campaigning for Abbey Road to be saved following reports that music group EMI plans to sell the famous recording studios.

Beatles fans are using Facebook and Twitter to urge a U.K. charity to save the world-famous Abbey Road Studios where the group recorded most of their songs.

Abbey Road was made famous by the Beatles’ album “Abbey Road”, picturing John, Paul, Ringo and George on the crosswalk outside the studio.

Apparently the Studio’s owner, EMI Group Ltd., has put the site up for sale to cut debt according to the Business Week.

“It’s not often that the public spontaneously suggests that we should acquire a famous building. If there is enough momentum, we may launch a campaign to save the studios.” The National Trust said on its Website.

” Its Britain’s last stand for culture. weve lost the empire, our national identity and cadburys. don’t let us lose our music to!” writes a member of SAVE ABBEY ROAD group on Facebook.

“abbey road is the heart of british music!” writes another.

“if we all put in a pound and help the national trust buy it for the nation come on if you loved only one of the beatles numbers then get on board,” writes another.

The group has around 1300 members, and around a hundred people have sign the online petition to EMI from the group to save Abbey Road.

Betty White, who is almost 90 now still has her comic timing intact. The veteran comic actor has had countless highlights throughout her remarkable career as a television star.

BettyWhite fanpage 300x151 Fan Campaign For Betty White To Host SNL On Facebook

Many of you might know that she had another standout performance to her credit when she appeared in an amusing Snickers commercial, where she gets pummeled by young men during a touch football game, that aired during the Super Bowl.

This ad has triggered an unexpected campaign on Facebook “Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!”. As the page title suggests, fans are campaigning for her to host “Saturday Night Live.”

“Betty White has been doing television since before I Love Lucy! What a way to honor her career, her comedic timing, and her life than by inviting her to host Saturday Night Live!!!” the page reads.

NBC reps, on the other hand, have been mum on the ardent pleas. “Sorry. We never comment on this sort of thing,” a representative for SNL told Entertainment Weekly.

But the Facebook campagin shows no sign of slowing down with the number of fans rising to more than 300 thousand at the time of writing this article.

“Olympic Medal for Betty White!,” writes a fan. “She would steal the show, ratings would go sky high,I’ll go for that. Goooooooooo Betty!” writes another.

Three of her costars from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Mary Tyler Moore, Ted Knight, and Edward Asner have already hosted SNL. Maybe it’s high time for Betty to have her turn.

It is also worth mentioning that the numbers of fan for “Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)!” fan page has even surpassed the number of fans of the official fan page for “Saturday Night Live” on Facebook.
