Empires & Allies the latest offering from gaming behemoth Zynga, and it goes live today.

Zynga claims that the game includes “more social features than any Zynga game. “Unlike past Zynga games, “Empires & Allies” focuses more on competitive gameplay – there’s also apparently a single-player campaign – and appears to have a more real-time strategy focus.

In Empires & Allies, your mission is to build army units to fight evil enemy forces that have invaded a thriving, multi-island world. Players will also be able to recruit or invite friends and derive clues from allies and villains. Fund your armies by collecting rent on huts and cottages, and choose your battleground: air, land, or sea. The game looks a little more kid-friendly, going by the official trailer, than most combat games out there.

Empires & Allies debuts worldwide on Wednesday in 12 languages: Malay, Korean, and Norwegian (for the first time), English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish and traditional Chinese.

According to Gamasutra, Zynga has doubled its workforce to 1,500 from at least 12 game studios: Beijing’s XPD, Austin’s Challenge Games, San Francisco’s FooBrew, Tokyo’s Unoh Games, Boston’s Conduit Labs and Floodgate Entertainment, Frankfurt’s Dextrose AG, Dallas’ Bonfire Studios, McKinney’s (Texas) Newtoy Inc., Redwood City’s Flock, New York City’s Area/Code, and team members from Dallas’ MarketZero. The company boasts 250 million active users a month.

If you are one of those Facebook gamer who likes to lap up every single Zynga game, then here is a welcome change for you. For the otherwise, though too cartoonish, the game looks good enough for a try. Check out the official trailer below.

The title of the post wouldn’t have mean much to many readers of this site. But, apart from most youngsters and people who got introduced to computer games through Facebook or the late 90s, these two game title will probably bring a nostalgic feeling to those who started playing computer games in the 80′s and early90s. These two classic games are set to debut on Facebook in February.

“Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego” was a wildly popular 1980s mystery video game, and the internet world is filled with news of it coming to Facebook. In this game, you play a sleuth in the ACME Detective Agency. You will also fly all around the world a lot in the game solving different cases.

The Facebook trailer for Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego is below:

In “The Oregon Trail”, you assume the role of a wagon leader and guide your party of settlers over the Oregon Trail, playing shoot-the-animal and ford-the-river mini games throughout the game. Members of your party are also customizable and mortal too. The responsibility of being a wagon leader sort of gets tough once your party members starts dying due to cholera and snake bites etc.

The Facebook trailer for The Oregon Trail is below:

Both the games were supposedly published as educational games, though I won’t bet so much on that, but I can surely vouch for the fact that playing the games will surely increase your geography grade by a tad bit.

Facebook version of the games will surely have some added features and modern touch along with social components. So, I am surely looking forward to them. How well they fare is yet to be seen. I guess the games will either be a big hit or fall flat. Is there a third choice by the way? I guess not icon wink Classic Games Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and The Oregon Trail Debuts on Facebook in February

News regarding Facebook gaming, its addiction and Facebook users have mostly been negative. But, tonight we have a heart-warming tale to share, and it’s about how a Facebook game saved the life of a disabled man.

51-year-old Robert Chambers, from Spokane Washington, was playing the medieval-theme Facebook strategy game ‘Evony’, when his toaster caught on fire. His wife happened to be out of the house and for Chambers who suffers from muscular dystrophy, it was difficult to move around easily. He began to panic when smoke began filling his living room and the telephone was out of reach. So, he turned to the Facebook game he was playing to send an SOS to fellow Facebook gamers.

Bending his online privacy rule, Chambers turned to the game chat and typed “Help me, my house is on fire and I can’t get out.” and his address using his specialized mouse and onscreen keyboard. Fellow gamers from Indiana and Texas contacted the local fire authorities. Soon, firemen arrived at Chamber’s home and he was saved.

“I hated this game because he doesn’t pay attention to me or anything else in the house,” Switch quoted Chamber’s wife. “Now I’ve got to bite my tongue because it saved his life quite possibly.”

Kudos to Facebook game, the good-hearted online acquaintances, and of course Chamber’s presence of mind, he is saved with minor smoke injury, and will live to play Evony again icon smile Facebook Game Helped Disabled Gamer From Fire. .

Bon Jovi and Dr. Dre aren’t the only ones who have something to do with social games on Facebook. Word has it that Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is also associated with social games, though in a different manner.

According to a report on PR Newswire, Kobe Bryant is teaming up with Endemol USA and 6Waves to break into the scene of Facebook gaming.

“I’m excited to partner with Endemol USA and bring unprecedented entertainment programming to gaming fans worldwide,” PR Newswire quotes Kobe Bryant.

Endemol USA, a production company specializing in entertainment programming, will co-produce the game and secure sponsorships and brand integrations while 6Waves – one of the largest social game publishers, and developer of popular Facebook titles like Big Business, Ravenwood Fair and Mall World – will manage the development and distribution of the game.

This yet-to-be-named game will apparently give players the opportunity to win real prizes and experiences, such as autographed memorabilia by the NBA star, or tickets to Lakers game.

Now, that’s a real treat for fans worldwide; be it Lakers, Kobe Bryant’s, NBA, or memorabilia collectors.

Other than that, details are scarce at the moment. Stay tuned.
