LOLApps’ latest title “Ravenwood Fair” has done pretty well in terms of monthly users since it launched.
The game is building sim, which is dark and spooky. Like I wrote before, the game basics are the same with Zynga’s FrontierVille, but you will also notice the game has absolutely nothing to do with farming. The goal of the game is to transform the spooky island given to you into a nice and cozy island where visiting guests can have tons and tons of fun at your fair.

First of all, the game basics – once you land on your island, you will need to clear out the spooky trees little by little to make space for your fair. There are different games and buildings that can be build, which will raise the ‘fun’ rating of your fair, which in turn dictates the maximum amount of guest you can have at a time. You earn money, items and experience by harvesting trees, rocks, and beating up evil-wooden man and others who frightens your guests and also hypnotises you at times. You also earn money and experience from your guests when they play the games and use the buildings at your fair. Apart from that you will also have a queue of quests to earn from.
The game doesn’t have many items in the games and buildings section, but if you have played FrontierVille, you know how not-so-easy it is to complete a game. Yes, you will require different items to finish building them. Some or most items can be found by harvesting spooky trees and rocks, while some can be received as gifts from friends. You will also need to restock games and buildings once they are empty after specific uses.

Leaving out the special items, scores of decorations, and energy packs, we have one more category and they are called the “Protectors.” Remember, we are still on a spooky island, and no matter how populated such places are, the evil spirits roams free. These evil things in the forest and Domovoi will frighten your guest and you need to comfort them within a specific time limit or they will leave your island. The protectors help you in protecting and comforting them when you are not around.
Social element of the game is also pretty much the same as FrontierVille – you visit friends, help them, get energy and experience, send and receive gifts, help each other out by sending construction and quest items as well as fulfilling each other wish lists.
In the few days I played the game, it was fun trying to increase the fun rating of my fair. Graphics is above average and game play is fairly easy.
One big difference from FrontierVille is, as I told you before, since there is no farming aspect, progressing in the game is tougher than you’d expect. This problem is overcome partially by the generosity of max energy and energy refill rate. Farming being the best source of earning gold and xp in FrontierVille, you will miss it sometimes. So, Pace of levelling up is moderate, and harvesting trees becomes repetitive at times. But the game is fun and challenging when you concentrate on turning it into a beautiful fun fair and there are no dread of quests and buildings to complete.
If you like FrontierVille and want to play similar game, you will certainly like Ravenwood Fair.
