Three murders, several violent assaults, and incorrect information spelled chaos and almost doom for a Philadelphia man.

According to the ABC news, the Philadelphia police have been on the hunt for a man since November in connection to at least three murders and other violent assault in the Kensington neighborhood. Apparently, someone distributed fliers bearing the man’s name, address, and photo in the neighborhood where the residents were living on the edge.

The flyer found its way to a Facebook group called “Catch the Kensington Strangler, before he catches someone you love,” which apparently had around 8000 members, where 24-year-old Triz Jefferies was labeled as the Kensington strangler.

Well-meaning vigilantes rallied around his house Monday night, calling him the “Kensington strangler,” forcing the scared man to flee.

The terrified and misidentified man called the police requesting them to take him to the special victims unit and also submitted to DNA test, which finally cleared him off the case.

Police are investigating the people behind the false information.

So far, three murders have been linked to the Kensinton strangler, and a reward of $30K has been offered by the Philadelphia authorities for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved.

I am sharing this news because this news got me thinking real hard about the advantages and disadvantages of people taking up responsibilities to fight crime through the site. Do you think there should be some kind of policing such groups on Facebook?

A little known singer showed that Facebook can be used to do more than just the usual connect and share, chat or play social games.

Jonathan Haselden set up a Facebook group inviting girls to feature on the video and artwork for his debut single called “Miss Pretty” and the response overwhelmed even his wildest imaginations.

Haselden, 28, was reportedly inundated with girls from around the world. Around 10,000 women from countries including New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, Russia, Bulgaria, Cyprus and South Africa responded with photos and promo videos.

“I am overwhelmed at the response. I thout it had reached its peak when it reached 2,500 but to get 10,000 is just crazy. The amount of effort that everyone put in is really touching,” the Daily Express quoted Haselden.

The singer trimmed down the 10,000 responders to 395 for the artwork on his single and 118 for the video. The 118 girls reportedly traveled to a film studio in London at their own expense to dance around the singer through-out the video.

Heselden, who hails from , is hoping to be the first unsigned artist ever to take the number one spot on the charts. The video seems to have gained enough publicity with the usual way it went through to get released. It won’t be surprising if it hit the top spot on the chart. Several Facebook groups have already appeared to support him in his endeavor.

The official video of Miss Pretty on YouTube has already received 20,000 views in two weeks.

If it does, then i guess the next single will be something like – “This is how it’s done (yeah, yeah!) icon smile Singer Attracts 10,000 Women Through Facebook For Debut Single

Betty White, the former Golden Girl, will appear on Saturday Night Live – an idea she referred to as ‘ridiculous’ just a few weeks back -  in the near future as confirmed by the People magazine.

The “Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!” Facebook Page has now filled with congratulatory messages from fans who supported the campaign. Though the Facebook page has stagnated in growth, with around 500,000 fans for quite some time, the group got what they requested for.

Fans have been rooting for White, 88, to do SNL ever since her appearance in Snickers ad during the Super Bowl.

It is really impressive that a Facebook page about a random celebrity could generate so much buzz and response from the network.

It is still unclear when she will appear or what it will entail as she didn’t offer any details on it.

hella 300x212 What Should We Call This 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Number? What do you call this number, 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000?
Stop counting the zeroes… it’s a 1 followed by 27 zeroes??

I am also not sure because i seldom think past billion icon smile What Should We Call This 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Number? .

Well, as a matter of fact no one does as of now. Currently, the highest prefix allowed by the International System of Units (SI), i found after doing some research, is the “yotta”, for 24 zeroes.

A number with 27 zeroes….
“Let’s call it “Hella”, because it’s a hell of a number. Right?”

A campaign for “hella” to join the likes of “kilo”, “mega”, “giga” and “tera” as an internationally accepted prefix is attracting growing support.

According to a report by Telegraph, the campaign started in California – where the word ‘hella’ is a slang for ‘many’.

“The analysis of many physical phenomena reveals natural quantities in excess of 27 orders of magnitude, a number which is currently ignored by the SI system,” wrote group founder Austin Sendek on the Facebook online petition outlining the case for the hella.

More than 20,000 people including scientists and students have signed up.

Most existing SI prefixes are either derived from Latin or Greek words for numbers, a trend that the SI system committee will be keen to continue. Even if the need for a new prefix was accepted, it is not quite sure that “hella” will be listed among the ones given below.

LIST OF SI PREFIXES

10 = deca
100 = hecto
1,000 = kilo
1,000,000 = mega
1,000,000,000 = giga
1,000,000,000,000 = tera
1,000,000,000,000,000 = peta
1,000,000,000,000,000,000 = exa

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = yotta
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = What is your say on this??

1 MILLION STRONG 4 IRON MAIDEN to open the 2012 London Olympic Games!! Facebook Group

The group, titled “1 MILLION STRONG 4 IRON MAIDEN to open the 2012 London Olympic Games!!,” wants Iron maiden to play and represent England in the upcoming London Olympics Games.

According to the creator, the group is created as a virtual petition to let Iron Maiden represent Britain by playing at the upcoming London Olympics Games 2012.

Currently, with around 250 members the group has along way to go if they are vying for 1 million fans, but looking at the way users can create a difference using Facebook in recent times, neither the target is impossible to achieve nor will it take much time.

The only concern here is whether their petition will be taken seriously or not?

John Mellencamp’s 14-year-old son has started a social networking campaign on Facebook that he hopes will get his rocker dad to quit smoking.

Mellencamp publicist Bob Merlis told The Associated Press that the challenge is legitimate.

The Facebook group is called “1,000,000 to join, my dad john mellencamp will quit smoking.”

So, if you happen to be a fan of John Mellencamp or would love to help a kid in his quest to help his dad kick a dangerous habit, then make sure to keep the numbers counting.
