Facebook Hyderabad office

Leading social networking gaint, Facebook Inc inaugurated it’s office in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad today.

“We are seeing a ton of momentum with our 15 million users, developers and advertisers right here in India. It’s an incredible time to be starting our operations,” said Kirthiga Reddy, head of operations for Facebook in India.

The move will likely help the company boost advertiser numbers, rope in more software developers for relatively cheaper price, and draw more and more users with its presence. Facebook recently dethrone Google’s social networking site Orkut as the leading social networking site in India.

According to Alexa, web-ranking information provider, Facebook is the third-most visited website in the country.

Facebook is moving out to the Asian continent to open a new office, and the pitstop is Hyderabad, city of pearls.

Hyderabad, India’s city of pearls and one of India’s top IT hub, house many foreign firms including search-engine giant Google, IBM, Microsoft, Dell, and Oracle.

The Hyderabad office will have advertising and developer support teams, the company said on Monday.

Don Faul, director of global online operations, said in his blog on Facebook that 70% of users are now outside the U.S. and use the site in over 70 languages.

“By having multiple support centers in a variety of time zones, we can provide better round-the-clock, multi-lingual support,” Faul said.

“In India alone, we’ve seen rapid growth and now have more than 8 million people there actively connecting on Facebook,” he adds.

Though the company did not release any details on the investment or hiring figures, it said the company is already recruiting for key position at Hyderabad and will be supplementing Facebook’s other centers in Palo Alto in California and Austin in Texas, along with the Dublin office in Ireland.

With the new office in Hyderabad, Facebook can expect to tap a lot of skilled workforce at a relatively cheap wage.
