Skype has launched the latest version of their VOIP software Skype 5.0 today. The latest version will include a deep Facebook integration, group video chat and improved IU along with other features.

The latest version of Skype pulls all your Facebook contacts and newsfeed and displays them within the Skype interface.

With this new Skype for Windows, you can call and send SMS to your Facebook friends on their mobile or landlines, and also make free Skype-to-Skype call if your Facebook friend is in your Skype contact. Apart from that, you will also be able to post status updates, comment, or like friend’s posts.

In addition to Facebook integration, the new version also includes automatic call recovery, which will help you to immediately reconnect calls interrupted due to Internet connection problems.

The other big update is group video calling with dynamic view feature. During a group video chat, the main video screen will toggle according to the speaking party. Till now, video calls were only possible with one-to-one calls. With the new update, you will be able to make video call conference with ease. This feature is available to everyone on a trial basis.

Last but not the least, Skype 5.0 sports a revamp UI that includes a new profile and mood message, and the new Facebook dashboard.

Facebook and Skype are said to be working on a deal of integrating their services, allowing Facebook users to talk to each other through skype.

According to All Things Digital, the two companies are on the verge of announcing a “significant and wide-ranging partnership”. It is not sure how far the integration will go, but is expected to allow users to send SMS, chat, and call their Facebook friends directly from Skype.

The new features will most probably go live on Skype 5.0, which is expected in a couple of weeks.

Skype makes money by charging people for phone calls and Facebook gets its revenue from advertising. But, both the companies are concerned with connecting people, so it is a logical step. Facebook will be happy to enable new ways to communite for its users, while Skype to extend its user base to Facebook’s 500+ million users.

Gist aggregates the network information in users’ e-mail inboxes, analyzes the contacts, then ranks and prioritizes the importance of contacts based on the frequency and timing of messaging interaction with the Gist user.

The latest Gist release leverage Facebook connect, enabling its users to access fresh Facebook content, including status updates, contact data, and other News Feed content through the Gist web application, Gist iPhone app and Gist Outlook plug-in.

Gist also integrated with the Facebook inbox, allowing Gist users to access their Facebook messages in the correspondence widgets on their Gist profile pages. All the recent news about leaked images of Sony PS3 integrating Facebook is legit. Sony has officially announced that the upcoming PS3 firmware 3.10 update will bring  Facebook integration to PlayStation 3′s XMB interface. The update will allow linking user’s Facebook account to their PlayStation Network account. Although it had already been possible to access social networks through the console’s Internet browser, the latest changes let users share their gaming achievements automatically as Facebook updates.

Eric Lempel, PlayStation Network Operations director, in blog post at official PlayStation Blog, stated that Facebook integration is just the beginning and Sony looks forward to add new features that enhance user experiences in future updates.

Let’s hope that the Trophy and PlayStation Store activity updates don’t annoy your fellow Facebook friends and users. For this feature, it’s Facebook that’ll have to make efforts to provide hiccup free News Feed. Apart from that, the revamped Photo category will allow easier view of photos stored.
