Just when you thought you are finally getting the hang of using Facebook, a new update arrives and things are scattered all over again.

With mandatory upgrade of Facebook profiles to Timeline over the next few weeks, you will have to get comfortable, not only with your profile but with Facebook Pages too.

Since the first and last step of interacting with fan/brand page is though “Like” and “Unlike”, let’s have a look at where we can find them now.

Finding the like button is pretty as it sits just below a Facebook Page’s cover photo.

Finding the “Unlike” button can be like a little game of hide and seek at first icon wink How to Like and Unlike Facebook Timeline Page

It is listed in the drop-down menu of the gear icon, which is located just below the bottom right of the Page’s cover photo.

Facebook, this morning, rolled out timeline-style pages for brands and business. Companies with a Facebook profile can now turn on the preview of the new design, or wait until all Pages are converted to the new interface at the end of March.

With the Timeline update for Pages, brands and businesses can interact with fans in a whole new way, and make the experience more dynamic and relevant for fans.

The new design comes with the following features:

  • Coldplay fb timeline Facebook Brings Timeline Style Design for PagesCover Photo: Yes, Pages also gets the widescreen “cover photos”.
  • Friend Activity: When someone first visits a Page, they may see friends’ recent posts highlighted as friend activity, as well as those friends who are connected to the Page.
  • Milestones and Page Timeline: Page owners can now add their brand/business timeline and milestones, and interacted with users in a whole new way with Facebook’s open graph ‘actions’.
  • Posts (Sticky): Page owners can pin a post like a sticky, at the top of a Page (for up to seven days only).
  • Admin Panel: This panel is a new way for Page administrators to track their page’s performances, get notifications about fans’ interaction with the pages, and to respond to private messages from users.
  • Activity Log: Page administrators can access to a log of their Page activity, including tools to easily manage contents like highlighting posts, hide/delete them.

In the old business Pages, administrators can specify a particular view or landing tab for users clicking through to their site. But, with the update, Timeline view is always the default view for users following links to a brand page. So, for brands too, not everyone is happy with the changes.

The update will be mandatory, and Page owners will have till March 30 before the new design kicks in for everyone.

For more information, check out facebook.com/about/pages and the new Facebook Pages guide.

Do you have a Facebook Page? What do you think about the timeline-style design?

Facebook as a social media has help in reuniting an 80-year-old California mother (Helen Torres) with her biological daughter (Christina) after 63 years.

Helen, then 17 in the year 1948, gave birth to Christina when she was still unwed and she regretfully gave her up for adoption. For the next 12 years Helen was attached with the child’s life from a distance, but lost contact of the girl over time.

By the time Helen was married and already raised five other children, but she continued to give a moment on March 8 every year to remember the birthday of her eldest daughter. “I always remembered March 8, it was Christina”s birthday. I kept it to myself. I would just go off by myself and say ‘happy birthday”, she remembered.

After getting to know about the story, the other siblings also joined in their mother’s search for their big sister. The youngest child, Deneen attempted to track down Christina. In the process she created a Facebook page in late January this year under the title “Searching for my sister, Mary Christine Bustamante (Gray) DOB 3/8/1948″. She also included the few details she knew about Christina’s adoptive parents.

In April, the effort led to a phone conversation between Deneen and Chris Gray, now 63-year old, living only 70 miles east of the family in Riverside, Califonia. The news came as a shock to Ms Gray, whose adoptive parents, now deceased, never told her she was adopted.

In June 2011, Chris Gray finally met her mother besides her siblings, niece and nephews at the Sacramento International Airport. Ms Gray has since decided to move to Yuba City to be closer to her new-found family. Facebook has really done a ‘great thing’ in reuniting this family.

Lady Gaga has lost her title as the “most popular woman on Facebook.” Rihanna is the new queen of Facebook now.

As reported by Mashable, Rihanna overtook Lady Gaga to claim the title of most popular woman on Facebook. Rihanna has 40,602,622 likes at the time of writing this post, while Lady Gaga has 40,568,354 likes. At this point there is about 35,000 fan difference, which is not much, but the gap is certainly widening.

Lady Gaga is having a bad week. Earlier this week, her YouTube account was temporarily suspended, and now Rihanna takes away her crown.

But “Mama Monster” is still the queen over at Twitter.

Facebook Pages will be getting updated, that will make them look more like user profiles.

The new changes will “help you manage communication, express yourself, and increase engagement,” Facebook said in a blog post.

Tabs are now neatly grouped on the left section of the Page as links.

The new updates are focused on three sections:

Better Communication – This is the most significant and long-missing feature. Administrators can activate “Use Facebook as Page” option from the “Account menu. Once activated, you’ll receive in-site notifications when someone like your page, posts or comment. You can also opt to receive e-mail notifications to let you know about new page activity.

You can also visit other Facebook pages, like them, and leave comments. All these activities will be showed in the name of your Page/brand, thereby increasing your Page/brand’s visibility. This is huge for marketing affiliation and brand association. Pages you like will be displayed in the left section of your page, and you can also have news Feed of activities of Pages you like.

More Opportunities for Expression – Like their profile counterparts, the updated Facebook page will now sport a strip of images (any photos posted by the page owner) at the top of you Page’s wall.

Improved Relevancy – Wall posts under “Everyone” on your Page are now sorted according to their relevance like – post by users in same language or country; or post by friends. Also, posts will high number of likes or comments are promoted to the top of the Page.

Constantly switching between using Facebook as a Page/brand and your personal profile is a little let down, but the overall offering with this latest update is huge.

WikiLeak founder Julian Assange is relying on good Samaritans to fund (or at least part of) his defense fund.

A Facebook page featuring a picture of Assange with the words, “I need your help. Please give,” has been set up for the purpose. The page has raised about $5,700 so far, according to CNN.

The Fund was established by London-based law firm Finers Stephens Innocent, accounting firm Hazlems Fenton LLP, and Assange’s legal team.

Assange, who is under house arrest, will face a hearing on Monday for possible extradition to Sweden, in connection with sexual misconduct allegations.

Guess what? The local and international press is abuzz with news of the British Monarchy launching a page on Facebook.

According to the BBC, the page will feature the Circular, photos, and videos of the Queen and the other members of the Royal family, and details of royal events and ceremonies. The page which is created in collaboration between Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and the Royal Collection is scheduled to go live from Monday morning.

If you are harboring any desire to “friend” the Queen or give a “Poke,” then you better drop the idea, as the page will not be a personal profile. Fans will be able to “like” the Page and follow the activities closely through updates on the news feed.

The Royal Family already has a Flickr account, Twitter account, and YouTube channel.

The practice of circulating a report that lists the previous day’s appointments was reportedly started by George III in 1803 after he became frustrated at inaccurate newspaper reports.

The Queen reportedly owns a BlackBerry, an iPod and sent her first email from a military base as long ago as 1976. Now, that’s cool right?
