What can one do with Facebook?

Apart from the usual social networking, it has been used for different types of causes and campaigns. Yesterday, we brought to you news about a singer who used Facebook to find and successfully make his debut single video.

There is one more thing you can do on/with Facebook – help a plant stay alive. Yes, that true! Creator Baskim Isai says on the plant’s Facebook page:

I’m Meet Eater: a real garden that feeds on social interaction. The more you talk to me, the more I grow! Become a Fan of my page and share a joke, a picture or a video.

An experimental plant in Brisbane called “Meet Eater” is literally kept alive by love and care of its fans on Facebook.

The Meet Eater, located at the State Library in Brisban is fed a measured amount of water through an automated system whenever people become fans on its Facebook page or write post on the walls of its Facebook page.

The plant also “purrs”, “coughs and splutter” when stroked or over fed and wails to catch the attention of those passing by if left idle for long according to the creator Bashkim Isai.

Meet Eater, launched to the cyber world two months ago, is said to be in its third incarnation. It has around 5700 fans at present. The number of fans reportedly jumped from 900 to 4500 in a week’s time drowning the previous two incarnation in the ocean of love. The third incarnation is said to be “much more water tolerant”.

“These updates are designed to simplify navigation for users, reduce complexity for developers, and enable us to build the next generation of tools for growing your business with Facebook,” wrote Fran Larkin on the developers blog.

The primary changes will includes:

  • Removal of “boxes” that exist on the sidebar of a page.
  • Removal of Boxes Tab and its contents.
  • Narrower tab pages of 520 pixels from the current size of 760 pixels.

The changes will be most notable to consumers and marketers as well as Facebook Page administrators, who will have to arrange and re-size their Page contents to fit the new format, as well as find other way to display the contents currently in display with the help of boxes.

Blogger Erno Hannink shows some great way on how to adjust your FBML for the coming changes in this post.. He also expects that change in profile image size announced earlier may also occur around this time.
