Facebook has added a useful new feature to their photo application, automatic face detection. In the past when you uploaded photos to Facebook you were required to manually draw a box around a person’s face and then tag their name to add them to the photo. A new algorithm now automatically detects faces in photos, all you have to do is click and tag. This is only a small improvement, but with 3 billion photos being uploaded to Facebook each month, it could amount to a huge amount of time saved.
The next logical step will be to add image recognition and auto tagging, which is a scary thought. Even if the technology is already available, I think most users would be too freaked out by a feature like this. It would also require a huge amount of processing power to run an image recognition and auto tagging script on every photo uploaded.
Raunchy pictures of two teachers posted on Facebook caused a storm of gossip.
The two teachers, Helen Casey and head of English Ann Kerr, of Warwick State High School posted raunchy photos of themselves in schoolgirl outfits, fishnet stocking and heels while posing on a bathroom vanity.
One of the pictures is said to be Ms Kerr’s Facebook profile shot, with the series of images entitled ‘First day of school’.
According to a report on Daily News, the photos were reported to the Education Queensland on Monday and Education Queensland has told the pair to clean up their internet imagery while investigations are going on.
The school’s students are reportedly “disgusted” but said they were not surprised by the act.
A Year 12 WSHS student said, “I think it’s disgusting especially as they’re teachers. But i wasn’t surprised they had photos on there.”
Another Year 12 WSHS student phoned the Daily News saying he was “embarrassed” by the teacher’s behavior.
“It’s foul, a big turn-off,” he said.
Whether the two teachers will face disciplinary action or not is not sure, but going by the judgments passed by the students of the school, these two teachers will not very easily get the respect they deserve as a teacher from their students anymore.
Emma Jones, a 24-year-old British teacher working in the an international school in Abu Dhabi died after drinking corrosive cleaning fluid.
Coroner Thomas Atherton said she might have accidentally drunk cleaning fluid from an unlabeled container, mistaking it for water.
The victim, according to her mother Louise Rowlands, was apparently living in fear and distress because her ex-boyfriend had posted ‘indecent’ pictures on her on Facebook and was accused of prostitution by a man working at the school.
She was apparently distress and afraid that a man called George working in the school’s IT department, who had seen the pictures, would report it to the authorities and she would be jailed in the strict Muslim country.
Suicide had been ruled out. She was about to return to Britain. Her clothes were out, ready to be packed and her passport was in her pocket when she was found dead by her roommate.
No proof of the photos was given to the inquest and Jamie Brayley, Emma’s ex-boyfriend, denied posting any indecent images of her.
Mr Brayley is said to have described Mrs. Rowlands claims as ‘complete fantasy.’

Long time ago, i used to use a mirror to view some photos on Facebook. The reason was fairly simple; some friends just can’t get enough posting rotated photos. My method was simple yet effective in giving zero strain to my neck
. It’s a pleasure to search for dirt in someone’s eye, but i never thought others too were facing this problem viewing my photos.
There is this option, yet overlooked by many, to set things right. Came across a 180 degree rotated photo recently, and so i thought it would be good to write about it here.
Here’s how to do it:
step 1: Go to your photos and select the album or the picture that you want to rotate.
Step 2: Click on the picture you want to rotate.
Step 3: Right below the share button, you will see 2 arrow icons. One icon is to turn the picture left and the other to turn right.

This little extra effort is going to save a lot of strain on many people’s neck. Psstt… if you are in for a revenge you can use it too
.
Photos application in Facebook is one of the most frequently used and the most popular features. Facebook users can upload individual photos or albums to Facebook using this application. Although almost all other image hosting services such as Flickr have imposed a limit for a size for photo uploading (quota for storage), Facebook allows unlimited photo uploads. However, users were allowed only 60 photos to be contained in one album, but later some users reported that they were able to create albums with 200 photos. Still it is not clear why some members are only allowed 60 photos.
Same as in many other Facebook features, strict privacy settings can be applied for Facebook Photos. Users can limit the visibility of the photos among the selected groups or selected friends. This allows users to have private albums shared only with limited individuals.
The most interesting feature of Facebook Photos is tagging. When a user uploads a photo, they can ‘tag’ the people, places, or objects in the photo. If the people who got tagged in the photo are present in Facebook, then those will be notified about being tagged in a photo with a link to access the photo. This becomes more interesting when the people who got tagged start commenting on the photo. The comments for a photo are arranged in descending order where you find the latest comments at the bottom of the page.
Facebook also allows users to upload photos from their mobile devices, so Facebook photos have a higher accessibility.
You can now easily download your entire facebook photo album, or a friends entire photo album, in one step.
Make sure you are using the firefox web browser. First you must install the FacePAD Facebook Photo Album Downloader. Once the addon as been installed, you hover over and album link and go to ‘File’ and select ‘Download Album with facePAD’, It’s as simple as that.
