Facebook Profile Information

lovely faces 300x216 Dating Site Uses Profile Pictures Of Facebook UsersA new dating website, Lovely-Faces.com boasts of having about 250,000 searchable profile pictures of Facebook users that were extracted without permission.

Artist Paolo Cirio and media critic Alessandro Ludovic, extracted around a million profile information without permission. Then, using some special software selected around 250,000 of them and sorted them out by facial expression. The listed profile pictures are searchable by nationality, gender, and category like “funny”, “smug”, “climber”, “easy going” etc.

The duo explains their “project” on their website Face-to-Facebook.net:

“Facebook, an endlessly cool place for so many people, becomes at the same time a goldmine for identity theft and dating – unfortunately, without the user’s control. But that’s the very nature of Facebook and social media in general. If we start to play with the concepts of identity theft and dating, we should be able to unveil how fragile a virtual identity given to a proprietary platform can be. And how fragile enormous capitalization based on exploiting social systems can be.”

Regardless of what they are trying to prove, scraping profile info without permission cannot be justified.

Facebook’s expression is definitely not one of smiling. Facebook spokesman said “appropriate” action will be taken.

For the people listed in the Lovely-Faces.com, the duo says “”If your identity has been hurt by this website, just write to us and we’ll remove your data instantly. This website is a work of art and we’re committed to avoiding any related annoyances.”

Facebook has introduced some changes to the Facebook profile recently. Here is a quick peek of the changes.

The profile page starts with a summary of your profile info like relationship status, where you are from, your work and education info etc. Few additions in the profile info include Languages You Speak, Sports and the friends you play with etc.

fb newprofile Quick Peek At The New Facebook Profile

The profile info summary is followed by a row of photos in which you have been tagged. The next section is allotted to content sharing – Status, Photos, link and Video. The rest of the centre section of the profile page is dedicated to newsfeed.

You will also find few changes in the “Friends” section. You can now select and show your favorites – family, best friend/s, or teammates. You can also feature existing friends list.

While visiting friend’s profile, you will be able to view your entire “Friendship” through the friendship link featured at the top-right hand section of their profile page.

Overall, the new profile layout is cool and easier to express yourself better. Similarly, it is easier to learn more about friends without having to click through different sections of their profile information.

100 million Facebook users data have been leaked on an internet.

The file contains user account names and URL for each user’s profile page, from which anyone can easily access the user’s details such as address, date of birth, phone number or email address. Once a user’s profile is access, it is also possible to access the details of their friends even if they have made themselves non-searchable.

The directory of the personal details of users, a massive 2.8 GB torrent compiled by hacker Ron Bowes of Skull Security, is reported to have surfaced on an internet file-sharing site.

Ron Bowes reported used a piece of code to scan Facebook profiles, and collected data not hidden by the user’s privacy settings.

Mr Bowes siad he did it to highlight privacy issues, to which Facebook replied that the details in question was already public information.

Isn’t it terrifying???

Are you on the list??

You can check whether you name is in the list or not by going through this link.

If you are in the list, you might be wondering how your name got there.

If your name is there then, the ‘Public Search’ in your privacy settings must be checked. You just need to uncheck the option to hide yourself from public searches.

I would like to repeat what Jame Nixon wrote on Thinq, “There’s absolutely nothing illegal about what Bowes has done – the information is, after all, publicly available – but perhaps the existence of a stalker’s online black book might finally persuade less security-minded Facebook users to get their arses in gear,”

If you are on the list, then i would like to remind you that the information was there all along, right from the time you made you Facebook account.

Just make sure to protect yourself in future.

Check out the Facebook Help section to more about privacy settings and how to do it.
