Can your Facebook profile page indicate your character and personality?

Yes. In fact, it can be a stronger indication for job performance and academic success than personality surveys.

A new survey lead by Professor Don Kluemper of Northern Illinois University’s College of Business, found that a 10-minute review of Facebook pages provided a stronger prediction of a candidate’s likelihood to excel in a job than the personality survey that many companies require candidates to complete.

They also found that the Facebook profiles of students were better predictor of future academic success than personality and IQ scores combined.

The study suggests that Facebook can be used as a reliable job-screening tool, because users are less likely to fake their personalities.

For all its apparent advantages, Kluemper is not advocating the replacement of existing test with Facebook or adopting it as an HR tool, because the study is first of its kind and needs to be proven valid. Secondly, there are many potential legal issues associated with it.

Still, it’s no secret that many HR departments troll the Facebook profiles of potential candidates. So, job seeks must be careful and resist from putting anything online that they don’t want an employer to see.

The study was published this week in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

More than 50% of Facebook users are worried about Timeline.

Over 4000 Facebook users participated in a poll by Sophos on what they think about Facebook Timeline, and the response wasn’t something Timeline would be proud of.

Check out the poll figure below.

Sophos pointed out that the Facebook users who responded to one of its poll were most likely those who were more security-conscious than the average user on the social network. Still, fewer than eight per cent giving the thumbs-up isn’t exactly what Zuckerberg would have wanted, though he and the company went ahead with making the new profile format compulsory.

One of the main concern users are talking about on Facebook is how the new profile will make all your older post easier to view. However, if you spent enough time cleaning up your old posts – because you decides what shows up on you Timeline, or what you want to delete from your profile – there isn’t much to worry about.

What concerns me though is how Facebook is trying to make us share more on the site.

Do you worry about Facebook Timeline?

Most of you might have received a notification to switch your profile by now. If not, you can either wait for the notification or activate it by going to Facebook.com/timeline. Whichever way you decide to do it, you will have seven days to review your Facebook Timeline before it goes live.

Timeline is a very creative and interesting way to experience Facebook and look back at your past Facebook activity. But, the highlights are collected from what Facebook sees as important – so, it might become a privacy nightmare for some when skeletons from the past starts tumbling out on your profile.

Hopefully, you will use the seven days to fine tune your profile to the fullest because few years of Facebook is a lot to go through.

Hopefully, all you readers are bracing up for more changes to your Facebooking experience out of the ongoing F8 conference.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new feature called Facebook “Timeline,” bringing a major change to your profile page, at the ongoing F8 conference in San Francisco today.

The new profile pages will now be more customizable, with the ability to modify the header with a full-width cover photo that Facebook hopes will express who you are. Your profile will still contain your profile picture. With Facebook’s Timeline, users profile will now be more customizable, so that users will be able to tell the story of their life through it.

Timeline will contain updates starting with the most recent ones, and users can check out older updates by clicking directly on the year on the right of their Timeline and Facebook will automatically scroll down to that particular year.

“It’s much nicer than anything we have today, … It’s the heart of your Facebook experience,” Zuckerberg said.

The timeline will also feature individual “views” for each type of content, so photos or status updates can be shown exclusively. Apps being an integral part of users’ Facebook experience, Timeline will also provide users with the ability to add particular app to their timeline.

You can check out the demo timeline here.

Facebook is slowly evolving: from a simple way to share pictures and short messages, to a gaming platform, and now a means to commemorate the lives of heroes and victims. A very good example of this is the Facebook profile of Holocaust victim, Henio Zytomirski.

Henio Zytomirski Facebook Profile Remembering Holocaust Victim, Henio Zytomirski, Through Facebook

Henio was born in March 25, 1933 in Lublin. In November of 1942, He and his father, Szmuel, were taken to the Majdanek Extermination Camp. There, Henio was killed by the Nazis in one of their gas chambers. He was only 9 years old.

Although Henio had died more than 50 years ago, he was not forgotten. He even became a national icon and his story is taught as part of Poland’s national curriculum.

The Facebook page was created by residents of Lublin, Poland. For the profile picture, they used probably Henio’s last photo, which was taken in front of Lublin’s PKO bank in 1939. He was just a 6-year old grinning boy then. Aside from photos, Henio’s profile also includes postings made by his cousin and other administrators.

The group who created the profile wanted the world to know this boy who died in the hands of Nazi Germany, and mourn for the millions of lives lost during that period.

Henio, now, has almost 3,000 Facebook friends. Indeed, this shows how effective creating memorials for victims of great tragedies in Facebook are.

Similarly, people in Belgium are attempting to create Facebook pages for each of the Allied soldiers who died there in WWII and are buried there. There are 27,594 of them from. They came from different countries including the US, UK, France, and Australia.

As Facebook grows as a website one can learn the new features such as pending friend requests. This amazing feature is able to give users an opportunity to request friends and to also remind people to be a friend. Another aspect of this feature is that it helps users keep track of the people that they requested as friends. Sometimes people need to see and oftentimes forget who they have requested as friends. This feature is also great for canceling friends that one can decide not to have requested in the first place. By being able to see and keep track of friend requests not only helps the user to be able to teach more about the features of Facebook but it gives a person a chance to understand more about the website. With each new technological advance on Facebook not only helps the user but it gives the user more of a capability to gain friends, and associate’s on the website.

This recently new application not only gives people more free reign but helps a person to be able to do what they want in terms of gathering people into their network community. By gathering more people into a network community a person is able to gain more and more contacts. With each new contact a person can not only gain their friendship but can also gain a new acquaintance. Some of the most amazing things about Facebook as a website are the special features such as this application that not only give a person a better sense of how to gain friends but help a person to continue or cancel a friend request.

As time goes on a person can be able to do more and more things on Facebook. Hopefully, people will enjoy this new feature that was added.
