facebook profile

Facebook is slowly evolving: from a simple way to share pictures and short messages, to a gaming platform, and now a means to commemorate the lives of heroes and victims. A very good example of this is the Facebook profile of Holocaust victim, Henio Zytomirski.

Henio Zytomirski Facebook Profile Remembering Holocaust Victim, Henio Zytomirski, Through Facebook

Henio was born in March 25, 1933 in Lublin. In November of 1942, He and his father, Szmuel, were taken to the Majdanek Extermination Camp. There, Henio was killed by the Nazis in one of their gas chambers. He was only 9 years old.

Although Henio had died more than 50 years ago, he was not forgotten. He even became a national icon and his story is taught as part of Poland’s national curriculum.

The Facebook page was created by residents of Lublin, Poland. For the profile picture, they used probably Henio’s last photo, which was taken in front of Lublin’s PKO bank in 1939. He was just a 6-year old grinning boy then. Aside from photos, Henio’s profile also includes postings made by his cousin and other administrators.

The group who created the profile wanted the world to know this boy who died in the hands of Nazi Germany, and mourn for the millions of lives lost during that period.

Henio, now, has almost 3,000 Facebook friends. Indeed, this shows how effective creating memorials for victims of great tragedies in Facebook are.

Similarly, people in Belgium are attempting to create Facebook pages for each of the Allied soldiers who died there in WWII and are buried there. There are 27,594 of them from. They came from different countries including the US, UK, France, and Australia.

As Facebook grows as a website one can learn the new features such as pending friend requests. This amazing feature is able to give users an opportunity to request friends and to also remind people to be a friend. Another aspect of this feature is that it helps users keep track of the people that they requested as friends. Sometimes people need to see and oftentimes forget who they have requested as friends. This feature is also great for canceling friends that one can decide not to have requested in the first place. By being able to see and keep track of friend requests not only helps the user to be able to teach more about the features of Facebook but it gives a person a chance to understand more about the website. With each new technological advance on Facebook not only helps the user but it gives the user more of a capability to gain friends, and associate’s on the website.

This recently new application not only gives people more free reign but helps a person to be able to do what they want in terms of gathering people into their network community. By gathering more people into a network community a person is able to gain more and more contacts. With each new contact a person can not only gain their friendship but can also gain a new acquaintance. Some of the most amazing things about Facebook as a website are the special features such as this application that not only give a person a better sense of how to gain friends but help a person to continue or cancel a friend request.

As time goes on a person can be able to do more and more things on Facebook. Hopefully, people will enjoy this new feature that was added.

Have you ever heard of the concept of social networking? If you haven’t, it simply means an Internet platform for you and your friends to hang out and share ideas and content with minimum restrictions. When it comes to the target audience, there are no restrictions. As long as you portray a legitimate profile within the conditions laid out by Facebook Inc., the founders of Facebook, you can connect to as many individuals in the world.

Although Facebook started off as a social networking platform for individuals, now it has been enhanced to serve the corporations as well. In addition to that, now users can post their ads by simply paying Facebook a price per click.

By now, Facebook has become the most popular social networking site on the Internet with a user base of 150 million users around the globe. Facebook Inc. uses heavy infrastructure for catering the growing user demands and it has been successful so far.

With the large volume of users, Facebook encounters various issues that are specific for websites that are famous and has a large user base. Security or rather privacy of the information is one of the prominent issues that the Facebook team constantly works on.

Facebook is one of the first Web 2.0 applications made available to the Internet, making it attractive to many segments of Internet users. Since the inceptions, this social networking platform has introduced many revolutionary concepts in to Web 2.0 including many of user created applications.

Groups are not alien to the world of social networking as it has been there on the Internet from its inception. The concept of groups was introduced with UseNet news groups and the concept has gone through a few makeovers during the past couple of decades.

When it comes to Facebook groups, you can create groups for almost anything. One can use Facebook groups for serious discussions, sharing content, advices, and media etc. There are a few restrictions imposed by Facebook on groups such as the motives for forming a group. As an example, forming a group for discussing about manufacturing bombs will be illegal.

When you create a Facebook group, you become the administrator of the group. Then you can assign more administrators to the group, so the group can be effectively managed. As the administrator of the group, you can define the restrictions for the group such as the visibility to all Facebook users, visibility only to the invited users etc. However, Facebook groups are never visible to non-Facebook users.

Facebook users can join the groups and this action should be approved by the administrator(s) of the group. Once joined, users can post comments on the Wall or post messages in discussion forums where threaded messages are allowed. The administrator of the group can broadcast messages to all users of the group and the message will end up in the Inbox of the users. Therefore, these messages attract a lot of attention.

Facebook usernames are an attempt to make Facebook profiles and pages easily shareable. Basically, usernames affect your profile’s URL. For example, the current URL for my Facebook profile is this:

Facebook.com/people/Alec-Renton/234124

Not exactly the easiest URL to share in the world. After today though, my Facebook URL will be as follows:

Facebook.com/Alect-Renton

This is a much easier URL to remember and share with others. It encourages sharing, friending, and increased activity on Facebook. It follows in the footsteps of Twitter and MySpace, both of which offer the vanity URL.

Facebook pages also have the option to register usernames, but as we reported earlier, your page has to have over 1000 fans to quality. Otherwise you’ll have to wait until the end of the month to register a custom URL. If you want to protect your trademark, visit this page to register it with Facebook.

At 12:01 ET/9:01 PT on Friday the 12th of June 2009, users will be able to register a username by visiting Facebook.com/Username. This page will launch with the ability to register a username at that time.

Default choices are variation of your full name, but you can choose your own custom username. However, if someone else has taken it before you, you’re out of luck, so register your URL quickly. Usernames can only have numbers, letters, and periods, so no special characters or hyphens. Once you have chosen a username, you cannot change it, so choose wisely. Rushing it could result in a mistake that cannot be fixed.
