Facebook users will soon be able to update their Twitter accounts directly through Facebook.
According to the BBC, Facebook said it is working on the feature that will allow cross-platform updates between the two seemingly competitive social sites.
Facebook has not confirmed a specific date of launching this feature; however, Facebook is expected to unveil the feature at Facebook’s F8 developers conference, which starts on 22 September.
At present, users could only link to Twitter from Facebook pages meant for bands, public figures and businesses.
UK doctors are being warned not to be Facebook friends with current or former patients.
The use of Facebook and Twitter is widespread among doctors and medical students. The British Medical Association’s release new social media guidelines hoping that it will help prevent “potential social media pitfalls.”
The BMA guidance said social media can blur the lines between personal and professional lives, and medics were warned to take extra care while using social media such as Facebook and Twitter, reminding doctors and medical students that ethical and legal duties apply equally on the internet as in other media.
A series of incident occurred in the recent past where NHS staff and other public sector workers have got into trouble through their use of social media.
One can also find similar guidelines within the American Medical Association’s social-media policy. Though it doesn’t explicitly recommend against friending patients, it does say that doctors should “maintain appropriate boundaries of the patient-physician relationship”, and physician “should consider separating personal and professional content online.”
