facebook update

In December 2011, Faceboook began rolling out Timeline to all users. Users were given the chance to opt-in to the Timeline until it was fully rolled out.

Facebook says that timeline is now available worldwide, and will be switching the profile of its 800 million users to the new profile over the next few weeks, according to a blog post Tuesday.

9b5735de4a6f801ab73e98436da4 Timeline Now Available Worldwide, Will Become Mandatory Soon

Users will have a 7-day period which they can use to decide what to show, hide, or remove from their profile before they publish their Timeline. This is something all users should take time to do, because all of your post – the good, the bad, and the ugly – will become visible all of a sudden.

As with any major Facebook update, not everyone is happy about the changes. A particular Facebook page, called Timeline sucks, set up to protest the move and request the site gives users the choice of which profile page they want.

In the meantime, Facebook unveiled over 60 Timeline apps few days back. These apps allow you to share your activities more easily, in more detail and interact with the app. If adopted widely by users, they will also give users a reason to stay on Facebook rather than spend online time elsewhere.

This might be a reason why Facebook is trying to make the switch as soon as possible.

Facebook has not provided an exact date on which the changeover will take place.

All iPad owners hoping for Facebook’s new timeline profile to appear may have to wait a little longer.

fb ipad 300x225 Facebook Timeline Update Coming To iPad In Late JanuaryThe original planned December release was postponed due to last-minute bugs. 9to5Mac reported that the social network is shooting for a mid-to late-January launch of timeline on its application for the Apple iPad tablet.

Facebook released an update to their iPhone and iPod touch application in mid-December bringing Timeline profile support in addition to improved photo management, subscriptions management, and smart friends list.

It’s not surprising that iPad was the last platform to get an official Facebook app too.

Facebook’s has finally rolled out Timeline, its newly redesigned profile, to all users worldwide.

Timeline, Facebook’s new way of presenting you to the world, is the most dramatic change in Facebook profiles to date. Facebook first introduced it back in September last, and has received mixed opinions and responses, but one thing for certain, it is here to stay.

Most of you might have received a notification to switch your profile by now. If not, you can either wait for the notification or activate it by going to Facebook.com/timeline. Whichever way you decide to do it, you will have seven days to review your Facebook Timeline before it goes live.

Timeline is a very creative and interesting way to experience Facebook and look back at your past Facebook activity. But, the highlights are collected from what Facebook sees as important – so, it might become a privacy nightmare for some when skeletons from the past starts tumbling out on your profile.

Hopefully, you will use the seven days to fine tune your profile to the fullest because few years of Facebook is a lot to go through.

Google+ has now joined the race of offering online games on its competing social network platform to attract more users. On Thursday, it announced to offer 16 games from 10 game companies including well known games-Zynga Poker, Angry Birds and Bejeweled. Besides, Google+ is hoping for more investment in social games and is expected to roll out more games gradually.

With the two social giants competing to attract more users to their respective online services, Google+ move to add games is a direct hit to the gaming system of Facebook.

In response, Facebook on Thursday evening unveiled a series of changes to its online-gaming and added new features to improve the gaming experience. It will roll out a live real-time game ticker that gives updates on friends’ activity on apps and games as they play, increase the size of its gaming screen and allow users to bookmark their favorite games on the home screen.

The recent move of Facebook is a necessary measures to boost its games platform , because social gaming is an ever-increasing important part of Facebook’s business which accounted for a revenue of more than $500 million from selling virtual goods last year. It has a user-base of 750 million over the world with more than 1 million monthly active users of the 85 games in the site.

One of the challenging contradiction between the two companies will be that Google+ will offer to charge game developers only 5% on transaction as compared to Facebook’s 30%. It is just one factor of consideration, we hope game developers will at the end choose the best platform with higher potential of users and which delivers the best value.

As we shared few days ago, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is going to reveal something awesome, and Facebook is scheduled to make the announcement today at noon CST.

But before the announcement hit us big, here are some rampant speculations that has been running around lately.

The most popular speculation is unveiling an in-browser video chat featured that has been developed with Skype. As we all know, we can only use text-only instant messaging to chat with Facebook friends. By offering video chat, Facebook might very well become the one-stop lounge for all communication needs.

Another speculation is an advanced photo-sharing feature in the line of Instagram or Picplz that is hugely popular with iPhone and Android users respectively. These apps allow users to apply artistic effects to photos easily before sharing on social networks.

There is also a possibility of Facebook releasing a native app for iPad platform, which could take advantage of the device’s larger visual real estate.

Lastly, there were also speculation about the possibility of re-vamped HTML5 mobile site, dubbed as “Project Spartan”,” but it seems like it is not on the agenda, according to TechCrunch.

I am leaning toward video-chat feature. What about you?

Facebook Pages will be getting updated, that will make them look more like user profiles.

The new changes will “help you manage communication, express yourself, and increase engagement,” Facebook said in a blog post.

Tabs are now neatly grouped on the left section of the Page as links.

The new updates are focused on three sections:

Better Communication – This is the most significant and long-missing feature. Administrators can activate “Use Facebook as Page” option from the “Account menu. Once activated, you’ll receive in-site notifications when someone like your page, posts or comment. You can also opt to receive e-mail notifications to let you know about new page activity.

You can also visit other Facebook pages, like them, and leave comments. All these activities will be showed in the name of your Page/brand, thereby increasing your Page/brand’s visibility. This is huge for marketing affiliation and brand association. Pages you like will be displayed in the left section of your page, and you can also have news Feed of activities of Pages you like.

More Opportunities for Expression – Like their profile counterparts, the updated Facebook page will now sport a strip of images (any photos posted by the page owner) at the top of you Page’s wall.

Improved Relevancy – Wall posts under “Everyone” on your Page are now sorted according to their relevance like – post by users in same language or country; or post by friends. Also, posts will high number of likes or comments are promoted to the top of the Page.

Constantly switching between using Facebook as a Page/brand and your personal profile is a little let down, but the overall offering with this latest update is huge.
