Lulz Security is a criminal group of hackers attacking some big targets on the Intarweb. Among the group’s victims: Sony BMG, Sony Japan and Sony Pictures; media organizations PBS.org and Fox.com; Nintendo.com; and even the FBI and the CIA.
Lulzsec realease a text document including a list of usernames and passwords. It posted on Twitter, a list of 62,000 e-mail addresses and passwords, out of which 12,000 e-mail addresses and passwords were from writerspace members and the rest covers on everthing from bank account to online stores.It is said that those passwords were downloaded 2100 times in the first 4 minutes after it were dumped.
Twitter was stormed with individual’s claim to have gain illicit access to social networking sites and even paypal accounts. The attacks were “just for kicks” and those passwords were “a random assortment from collection” as claimed by the hackers.
It is said that James Cook University and Griffith University logins were compromised. E-mails and passwords of University of Queensland students were published along with logins. Queensland police said they were monitoring the situation.
These hackers are committing criminal acts by stealing innocent people’s details and publishing and selling them to the determinant people, yet in one way they are exposing the pathetic flaws and loopholes of computer security. The recent hacking shows the serious dangers in the digital defence of high-profile targets.
It is obvious that individual’s privacy and security is prone to such malacious hackers so we need to be extra cautious and do regularly change the passwords to our online logins.
