Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and 27-year-old Priscilla Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, Calif., home.

Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday, the same day Zuckerberg turned 28.

According to Associate Press, guest learned that the event was in fact a wedding, and not Chan’s graduation celebration like they presumed.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years. They began dating during their sophomore year at Harvard, about the same time Zuckerberg was creating Facebook.

They made their status official on Facebook by updating their Facebook timelines with “Married Mark Zuckerberg.” and “Married Priscilla Chan.”

Zuckerberg reportedly designed his bride’s ruby ring himself.

A recent survey according to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers showed that one in five American divorces involve Facebook and 80 percent of divorce lawyers have reported a spike in the number of cases that use social media for evidence.

One cannot deny that Facebook can break marriages, but one out of five? Scary!

Dana Hanna of Maryland whipped out his Blackberry on his wedding day, somewhere between “I pronounce you man and wife” and “You may kiss the bride.”

He pulls out another phone and hands it to his stunned wife to do the same. The minister informed the puzzled guests that “Dana is updating his relationship status on Facebook.”

Once the texting was through, the minister pronounced, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. It’s official on Facebook; it’s official in may book.” to the amazement and laughter of the guests.

Hanna later said only he and the minister knew about the prank.

“This was just done to be funny — we really don’t Facebook THAT often icon smile Groom Updates Facebook From Alter ,” he wrote on YouTube. “I have lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch.”

“To all the criticizers of my video out there questioning my sanity: You don’t get it. I was having fun at MY wedding! Loosen up, have fun!’”
