Facebook Zuckerberg 750-million users
Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirms on Wednesday during its video calling announcement, that the company boast 750 million users world wide. However, Zuckerberg said that the company is not fussed about reporting the metric because the users number is not important as they once were. He rather believes on the amount of sharing people does in the website.
Zuckerberg announced that users are sharing 4 billion different things on the social network every day which is twice the amount of items shared a year ago. To met these sharing, Zuckerberg believes that the future Facebook apps will be much different which will make sharing growth exponential in the coming years.
The high rate of sharing is not limited to Facebook but it’s an “Internet phenomenon”, he said. For this reason Zuckerberg said he oversee Facebook as a platform where people can build apps that “will define how people use software”. It is all about the social infrastructure, which is measured by application, how much time people are spending online and how it’s driving the economy.
Zuckerberg is convinced that social networking has now come to a new age, an inflection point of change. He remarked, “We’re not everywhere yet, but there’s this clear arc where the world generally believes it is going to be everywhere…whether it’s us or somebody else doing it”.
Zuckerberg emphasized the fact that 750 million users, i.e. one out of every nine people in the world using Facebook was not a critical number and he confidently said that the number would increase. Facebook’s growth- from 100 million active users in August 2008 to 250 million in July 2009 and 500 million in July 2010 and now as of July 2011 stands at 750 million.
Facebook’s user count metric is much better than cumulative users report of many website which includes even inactive users. Facebook define a user who are active or has logged in within the last 30 days.
We probably hope the next official number will be 1 billion users. What Facebook can expect is it’s share from less integrated countries from Asia and Africa. Facebook if viewed as a country then it would be the third largest in the world by population.
