You will soon find an “Add Interests” link in your left-hand bookmarks. Top stories from each interest will appear in your news feed so you can scan interesting headlines or click through to read more posts.

Only a creator of a list can edit it and choose the privacy settings. Adding more social element to the feature, users can recommend lists to each other too.

If you use other social sites like Twitter or Flipboard, then you will find this new feature sounds like something you already know about.

Still, I am sure am gonna love this Interests List a lot. What about you?

The change that came on Wednesday filled users homepage with newsfeeds that Facebook calls “top stories” followed by “recent stories”. If that is not all, there’s something called a “ticker,” a live feed of all the ongoing activity that also appears in users’ news feeds, leaving many users outraged. It was literally impossible to move the mouse around without calling out a pop-up. By mid-morning, “new facebook” became one of the most discussed topic on Twitter, with majority of the comments being negative.

With 750+ million users, it sure is difficult to please everyone. But, if you are one of those who hate the new-look of Facebook or is worried about its real-time news ticker violating your privacy, then you are not alone.

On top of the recent changes, we should brace ourselves for more updates and features that will be launched at the ongoing F8 conference. Till then, share your views on the new look of Facebook’s news feed.

Facebook Ticker Integrating With More Users

Facebook in course of its design updates has started rolling out the ‘Ticker’ to more users. It is a real-time unfiltered News Feed features on right side of the page which shows all activity from your Facebook friends as it happens. It can be called a ‘mini’ or ‘second’ News Feed.

Ticker will replace the Most Recent filter on the current News Feed. In this update, the main News Feed will make no difference between Top News and Most Recent. Facebook thinks that users are missing out a lot of happenings across their social network and hence Ticker will be integrated side by side with the main News Feed.

Another new option is “This is a highlight”, which temporarily helps in sticking a specific update or status to one’s News Feed. However, it wasn’t clear whether its importance will be part of the update.

The main News Feed will now label as ‘Recent Stories’ which uses advanced algorithms to give only the most interesting and relevant updates (top stories) based on a number of factors, including likes, comments and how often you’ve interacted with those friends. If users click on an update in Ticker, it appears in Recent Stories whereby users can make comment and like the posts.

While Ticker is a mind-blowing live updates containing about everything from: likes, comments, status updates, new photos, updates from pages you’re a fan of, shared web pages, etc. The pair News Feed will definitely give satisfaction to all users.

For those of us who do not play those games that they play, these notices are nuisances.

So what can we do so these do not keep showing up on our news feeds? Follow these instructions:

Hover your mouse over the type of notice that you do not want to see. On the right side of that notice, the word “Hide” will appear.

Click that word.

A pop-up will appear where the notice was. Click on the middle button that says “Hide [application name]”. You will no longer get notices from that application.

Eventually, if you wish to see these notices back (like when you start playing that game) you can:

Go to the upper right hand of your screen where you will see “Account”.

Click on the down arrow then go to “Application Settings”. A list of all applications you used will come up.

Click on “Edit Settings” found on the same row of the application you are concerned with. A pop-up will appear.

Click on the tab “Additional Permissions”.

Put a check mark on “Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my wall”.

Click “Okay”.

In contrast, some notices come up because we used the application. Although we no longer use these applications, these still post notices on our News Feeds. To totally disconnect our Facebook accounts from these applications, go back to the list of applications as instructed above:

Instead of clicking “Edit Settings”, click on the x mark. A pop-up will appear confirming if you want to continue with the removal of the application.

Click “Remove”.

Do not let those notices overwhelm you. You have control over what you want to see on your Facebook homepage.

News feeds regularly keep you up-to-date with what’s happening with to your friends and what they do. As an example, when one of your friends do some action, it will be notified to you if it passes a certain evaluation done by Facebook. For this evaluation, Facebook uses an algorithm which considers a few factors such as actions your friends do, the privacy settings of the all the parties involved, the frequency of the interaction between the friend and you, and the News Feed References.

When it comes to news feed updates, some users experience high frequency compared to the rest. If you have many friends in your Facebook account and if they are highly active, then you should get your news feeds flooded.

If you think that you get too much or too little news feeds, you can always customize the news feed behaviors. Use ‘Preferences’ to adjust how you would like to read and get updated. Same way, you can control what others see about you through privacy settings.

If you get your news feeds flooded by actions of a friend and if you want to remove him/her from the news feed, you have two options: First of all, you can set the preferences to show fewer stories from that user and Facebook will only show you a handful of activities the user does. If you are still irritated, then you can completely remove the user from your friends list, so there won’t be news feeds from him/her.
