Nintendo

With Facebook becoming a growing market for the gaming industry, it is a surprise that one of the world’s biggest gaming companies, Nintendo, has no plans of joining the trend – for their most popular games, at least. Nintendo Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Cammie Dunaway, said that they will not bring Mario and Zelda over to the social networking site. They will keep Mario and Zelda in the Nintendo platforms.

But what is the big deal about Mario and Zelda, anyway?

In the video game, Super Mario Brothers, or more commonly called, Mario, the player takes on the role of Mario. The main goal of the game is to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil Koopa king, Bowser. During gameplay, Mario must race against time and survive the obstacles through the Mushroom Kingdom.

Along with its very familiar music, the game and its characters became very famous and have survived more than two decades of upgrades and revamps. It remains one of the top selling video game franchises.

Zelda, on the other hand, refers to other popular Nintendo games: the Legend of Zelda video game series, The Faces of Evil, The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda’s Adventures.

In The Wand of Gamelon and Zelda’s Adventures, the player controls Princess Zelda. In the former, the goal is to rescue the King and Link, defeat Ganon, and eventually become heroine of Gamelon. In the latter, the goal is to fight through the Seven Shrines of the Underworld then collect the celestial signs and bring the Age of Lightness to the land of Tolemac.

These two games have had cult followings since their respective releases. The fact that they will not be released on Facebook is bad news for fans who were hoping to enjoy them on the social networking site.
