Marvel Avengers Alliance Disney And Playdom Assembles Marvel Avengers on Facebook

“Marvel: Avengers Alliance combines epic Marvel characters with Playdoms’s industry-leading game mechanics to deliver a game that is sure to attract casual gamers and Super Hero fans alike,” said John Spinale, Senior VP of social Games at Disney Interactive Media Group. “With this game, Disney is bringing one of the world’s largest entertainment brands to the largest social network, giving millions of fans an entirely new opportunity to engage with the characters they love.”

The game takes place during a galaxy-wide disaster called the Pulse. Players take the role of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and assembling some of the mightiest heroes on Earth lead them to defend the planet.

The game launched on March 1 with 100 characters with 28 are unlockable heroes from the lesser known Iron Fist and Sif, to those who have marveled the world like Captain American, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Heroes can be recruited and trained to unlock unique abilities.

The game delivers a lot for a Facebook turn-based game with job classes, status ailments, and elemental weaknesses, along with the hoard of features traditional Facebook game provides.

One feature worth mentioning is “Marvel XP”, an in-game encyclopaedia for Marvel characters, where players can immerse themselves in when waiting for their energy to fill up.

More heroes will be added in future updates. “There’s 8,000 characters in the Marvel universe -  we’re probably not going to run out anytime soon!”, says Robert Reichner, Playdom Senior Producer.

logo gnome town Gnome Town Facebook Game Review

Gnome Town is the latest Facebook game title from Playdom. It is RPG/building game along the line of major hit games like FrontierVille and Ravenwood Fair.

In Gnome Town, you play the character of a gnome, who has moved to the forest leaving behind the busy city life, but the grass isn’t greener on the other side of the river. On arriving you learn that the Evil Gnome King has taken over the forest and it is up to you to save it.

The game is a big bundle of farming, rearing, exploring, building, battles, and adventure. Like a couple of game reviews that we have brought to you lately, Gnome Town also doesn’t feature the traditional energy system that limits your period of playability, making it a good choice for the casual gamers.

In Gnome Town, there are three important resources that you should keep your eyes on to make sure that you progress smoothly – Food, wood, and Machete. Food is used to perform task instantly, while wood is required to build new buildings. You can amass both of them through farming and choppin down mushrooms, as well as by completing quests. Machete is very important if you want to clear out the forest, either to expand your town or for completing quests. I notice that, we get a machete and a game credit when we level up. So, you will be needing more always.

The game quests are focused on the main story of the game – rescuing animals of the forest (imprisoned by the Evil Gnome King), and finding surviving gnomes and lost civilizations, with the ultimate goal to save and bring back the Gnome King. Rescued animals will become your helpers, allowing you do perform multiple tasks at a time.

Work on multiple tasks, pause and resume tasks

Despite the fact that the game is not energy-based, and you having several helpers to perform multiple tasks at a time, the time required to perform tasks are awfully long comparing to the amount of resources and experience you receive. To overcome the problem you can used food to perform task instantly, or pause certain tasks and works on more important tasks at hand.

Still got to make a mark there icon smile Gnome Town Facebook Game Review

In Gnome Town, there are certain statistics that you will need to keep on improving. They are Brawl, Journey, and Party. Using these stats, players to pit their might against each other through a battle/competition called Gnomespedition, where you can choose to interact with another player through either of these three stats and the player with a higher rating (rating of the player and their Gnome Town friends) of that particular stat wins. The info icon below your town’s name contains all the stats regarding your town, competition etc.

Different buildings and items in the game will increase one of more of these three stats by different points.

Other social elements includes sending and receiving gifts, sharing bonus, helping each other as staff in different Gnome Town buildings, and visiting each other.

Game items are not massive, but its hard to own them all.

The game has a cartoonish, yet fantasy-type graphics, and sure looks cute. Game interface is laid out well and doesn’t interface with the game screen, and menus and icons are neatly laid out at the bottom of the screen. Game music and sounds are cute too, but becomes redundant in the long run.

Overall, Gnome Town is a nice game for the casual gamers, since it don’t have energy-based limitations, or friends-based expansion (leaving Gnomespedition aside). The only con I can write about at the moment is the amount of insanely long period of time required to perform tasks. But, I will still recommend the game for all you game lovers out there.

Despite the huge array of SimCity-like games on Facebook, including Playdom’s Social City, Metrogames released its newest game, entitled Towner. The game currently has over 1.7 million monthly active users and this number is expected to increase over the coming days.

Towner Build Your Own Facebook Virtual Town with MetroGames Towner

Just like the rest of its contemporaries, the player is granted a piece of land where he or she can build a town. In general, the game starts at purchasing a building, placing on the player’s desired location, clicking on its flooring so that the construction may begin, and clicking on the finished structure to inaugurate it. Money for construction can be earned from dues paid by tenants renting the buildings.

However unlike many city building games, Towner requires a lot of interaction with the player. If a building is ready to be inaugurated and the player fails to click on the building within a certain amount of time, the building will be condemned (like farm crops that rot if not harvested in time). In addition, rent paid from tenants will be lost if these are not claimed.

There are also two other important things to maintain in the town: quality and happiness. Quality is maintained whenever buildings are repaired, and these are repaired at regular intervals.  If repair is missed, quality will go down and the next repair will be more expensive. To keep happiness among residents, in contrast, the player must have enough fire stations and buildings for jobs, entertainment, security, health, and education.

The game has one unusual feature. This is the player’s inability to lay down roads. Nevertheless, it is easy to be creative in this game since there are weird structures that the player can build including a UFO monument and the Sphinx. (Click HERE to play.)

Two weeks after acquiring its fellow social games developer, Offbeat Creations, Playdom announced its 5 million-dollar investment on the Argentina-based social gaming company, MetroGames. This move will strategically pave the way for the latter’s expansion of its games on Facebook.

Playdom1 Playdom Invests $5 million on Facebook Games Developer MetroGames

MetroGames is not new to the social gaming industry. In fact it already has 30 games under its belt, including Music Challenge (with almost 1 million monthly active users), as well as Typing Maniac and Biotronic (both with over 1 million monthly active users). In addition, it also has promised to release many more games on Facebook this year.

MetroGames Playdom Invests $5 million on Facebook Games Developer MetroGames

Playdom is popular for its games such as Mobsters, Bloodlines, Social City, TikiFarm, TikiResort, and Sorority Life. In November 2009, Playdom received a confounding amount of $43 million from investors. Since then, the company has aggressively worked on increasing its social gaming footprint. Aside from Offbeat creations (known for its games Food Fling and Be a Tycoon), it has already acquired the game developers, Green Patch (popular for its Lil Green Patch) and Trippert Labs (known for its Fighter Jets).

Playdom is definitely trying to compete with Zynga and Playfish head on. With all these developments, it can be expected that the social gaming experience will be brought to a whole new level this year.

Screen shot 2010 03 03 at 12 47 17 PM Social City: Playdoms City Building GameLately, city-building games are a rage among the Facebook game developer. Games such as My Town, Nano Towns, My City Life are some of the games that were released in the recent past, and all of them are city-building game. Such game allows the player to build their own and take care of their own city so that it becomes one of the most prosperous and best looking city.

Playdom, the game developers behind popular titles like Tiki Farm, Mobsters 2, and Sorority Life, brings to you this brand new city-building game titled as Social City.

There is some complexity involve in this game. There are population limits and the city’s residents happiness which the player have to manage. Moreover, player have to continue assigning jobs to factories in order to bring in good income for the city to prosper easily, apart from getting exp and income from other buildings like houses and business structures. Roads are free and self-constructing. One does not have to choose between different types of roads. Just click where you want to build the road and the game AI decides whether it should be one-way, two-way or whatever.

One thing that truly sets this game apart is the level of graphic quality the  developers have put into the game. The graphics are crisp and nice looking. It is the best graphics i have seen in any city-building game on Facebook. In fact, one can actually see little guys walking, working and playing basketball while the clouds slowly drifts by icon smile Social City: Playdoms City Building Game

Social City Social City: Playdoms City Building Game

Facebook Game: Social City

Of course there needs to be some improvement in the game – more specifically, the game doesn’t allow rotation of objects. More features on updates will be more than welcome. Apart from that and the little complexity mentioned above, building the city is fun. When one selects the building icon, grids appear on the city, which makes it a lot easier to align buildings.

This is a neat little game. Social City is a great contender for the top spot among all city-building games on Facebook.
