As a revolution to social gaming, Electronic Arts (EA) in collaboration with Sims Studio and Playfish, is launching a simulation games called “The Sims Social”, a Facebook version if its 100m-selling ”virtual soap opera”. The Sims Social is a whole new entertainment experience game with uniquely playful and creative elements.

The Sim Social, Coming Soon On Facebook

It allows players anytime, anywhere to create and control their Sims.  Build a bachelor pad or dream houses, spark friendships and romances, and have exciting adventures hooking up with their Facebook friends. Players can choose from different personality types, such as creative and Romantic for their Sims.

The primary objective of the game is to keep the Sim happy by satisfying a set of basic needs such as hygiene, fun, socialization, sleep hunger or bladder capacity.

The game is being all about socialization among Sims, but the actual social elements in the game come from standard gifting of virtual items, visiting friends’ in-game houses, recruiting friends to complete construction of new rooms and new objects and from interaction between the player’s Sim and their friends’ Sims governed by a permissions system.

Another brainchild of topnotch social games developer, Playfish (Electronic Arts), Hotel City has recently invaded the world of Facebook. This hotel simulation game lets players experience how it is to own and manage one’s very own hotel. To keep the hotel thriving, the player is in charge of adding rooms, room decorations (like wallpapers, chairs, tables, lamps, etc.), hiring friends as hotel staff, and building amenities (like a swimming pool, gym, and a restaurant).

The game starts out with a brief and simple tutorial, then the player is given the liberty decorate the hotel building as he or she wishes. Purchasing decorations and other hotel features help increase profits in the long run. Like other games, initially there are only a few decorating options. As the player increases his or her level, more furnishings are made available.

Like any real hotel, income is generated when customers use the rooms and hotel facilities. Guests pay more in larger rooms and rooms with more furniture. In addition, these rooms earn higher ratings; and the higher the rating, the more popular the hotel is.

Aside from waiting for customers to get a room, there are 2 other ways to earn coins: by poking a sleeping guest and by visiting friends’ hotels.

Hotel City is a combination of Playfish’s other game, Restaurant City, and the Chinese Play Crab’s Happy Hotel. Despite the fact that the game is new, it already has over 76 thousand monthly active users.

It is easy to get hooked to the game, especially with its designing freedom and startup budget. To play, click HERE.

Making money from creating Facebook games is known to come from each miniscule sale of virtual items. However, earning from the sale of real goods is possible. In fact, Playfish has proven that this month of hearts.

It was reported that in just two weeks before Valentine’s Day, thousands of real flowers were sold through a game advertisement in Playfish’s Facebook Pet Society. According to EA’s Vice President for Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, Sebastien de Halleux, there was a 20% increase in Valentine’s flower sales compared to last year’s. In fact, the sale was so substantial that it matched the revenue from the sale of about 60 million virtual items during that two-week period.

The game, currently, has over 19 million monthly active users. Many of these people clicked the ad that directed them to a flower vendor’s website.  After making a purchase, Pet Society then gave the player virtual money that can be used in the game. This little intangible thing was the incentive to purchase the flowers.

Virtual cash can be used to purchase virtual furniture, accessories, etc. Though these are items that the player can’t get hold of in real life, many are still patronizing it for the sake of improving their game play.

These virtual features may not be real but the satisfaction it gives players make the money spent worth it.

Yesterday, a new Facebook app was launched: Gangster City (http://apps.facebook.com/gangstercity/). This flash-based app is a role playing mafia game produced by Playfish.

Ganster City Play Now 300x93 Gangster City: New Facebook App from Playfish

The game starts with a comic book style storytelling, where the player’s character just discovered that his father was part of the mob and was killed. The police didn’t really touch the case, so the killer is still on the loose. So the player must then find out what happened and avenge his dad.

The character will be aided, initially, by Mickey. He will be providing missions to complete. Missions require energy and sometimes equipment (1 unit of energy is replenished every minute). During a mission, there is a single panel, comic book style fight that will let the player know how many points he or she has lost. If the mission is to steal a car, the user will see his or her character hotwiring the ignition. If the player is successful, he or she receives money, experience points, and occasionally items for future use.

When the character levels up, the player receives skill points. These points may be used to improve attack and defense ratings, as well as maximum energy. Leveling up also unlocks new missions and items.

Characters are also allowed to purchase properties that will allow them to earn money. Users will be able to see these in the game’s city map.

Players can also add friends to join their mob as Associates or Family Members. Doing this gives the players better stats and Family Jobs become available to complete.

Although new, the game now has over 500 monthly active users, of which 455 are fans, and an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5!

The game definitely has a good start. Hopefully, Playfish will keep the momentum going.
