On Tuesday, Facebook has announced expansion for its Washington policy and lobbying office by hiring Louisa Terrell, special assistant to President Obama for legislative affairs to become as director of public policy at Facebook.
She will be accompanied by Privacy expert, Erin Egan , co-chair of Covington & Burling’s global privacy and data security practice to serve as the Facebook’s senior policy adviser and director of privacy. Both of them will joined Facebook in October.
Recently, Facebook is facing increased scrutiny over its privacy and security practices particularly in Europe, as such the company has also added Erika Mann last week, to lead its Brussels office and serve as the lead spokeswoman for E.U. institutions. She most recently represented the Computer and Communications Industry Association in Europe.
Over the past, Facebook has added high-profile political veterans into the company and the latest announcement will surely bring their collective experience to create a whole new team of experts to help the social networking adapt with crisis and continue its growth.
According to Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyse:
“It’s imperative that we scale our policy team so that we have the resources in place to demonstrate to policymakers that we are industry leaders in privacy, data security and safety”.
