Disney And Playdom Assembles “Marvel Avengers” on Facebook

Marvel: Avengers Alliance is a turn-based combat RPG Facebook game, which is now live on Facebook. The game was developed by Playdom, and features various Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains in a tactical turn-based combat experience.

“Marvel: Avengers Alliance combines epic Marvel characters with Playdoms’s industry-leading game mechanics to deliver a game that is sure to attract casual gamers and Super Hero fans alike,” said John Spinale, Senior VP of social Games at Disney Interactive Media Group. “With this game, Disney is bringing one of the world’s largest entertainment brands to the largest social network, giving millions of fans an entirely new opportunity to engage with the characters they love.”

The game takes place during a galaxy-wide disaster called the Pulse. Players take the role of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and assembling some of the mightiest heroes on Earth lead them to defend the planet.

The game launched on March 1 with 100 characters with 28 are unlockable heroes from the lesser known Iron Fist and Sif, to those who have marveled the world like Captain American, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Heroes can be recruited and trained to unlock unique abilities.

The game delivers a lot for a Facebook turn-based game with job classes, status ailments, and elemental weaknesses, along with the hoard of features traditional Facebook game provides.

One feature worth mentioning is “Marvel XP”, an in-game encyclopaedia for Marvel characters, where players can immerse themselves in when waiting for their energy to fill up.

More heroes will be added in future updates. “There’s 8,000 characters in the Marvel universe -  we’re probably not going to run out anytime soon!”, says Robert Reichner, Playdom Senior Producer.

“New In Town” Game Gives Players A Second Shot At Life

Digital Chocolate has unveiled its newest Facebook game, New In Town, giving players the opportunity to pursue their dreams and aspirations virtually.

New In Town Game Gives Players A Second Shot At LifeNew In Town is a life simulation game that allows players to take another shot at life after high school, choosing a career, falling in love, building a home, and establishing themselves in a fictional city.

“New In Town gives users the opportunity to pursue their virtual dreams and aspirations … We’re bringing a different spin on life simulation games, and the possibilities are endless,” said Marc Metis, President of Digital Chocolate.

In the game, players begin their journey fresh out of high school and new in town.

Like in most life simulation games, you will have to improve your skills by taking classes and using that towards getting a better career and making your dreams come true. But, as the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” there are many fun and social activities that can be perform in your virtual life – having espressos at cafes, shopping at boutiques, apparel and home customization – are some of the other elements that will influence your success in the game. You will also be challenged to complete missions (quests) faster than other NPCs in friendly competition.

New In Town has good graphics and the in-game tutorial is enough to get you started. What’s interesting about life simulation games is, there are so many ways to progress through the game and so many different ending depending on how you play the game.

The game is in beta now and available to play for free on Facebook. Digital Chocolate will be updating the game in the coming weeks that will include more neighborhoods and content including ways to interact with friends.

Game Walkthrough: King.com’s Fifth Facebook Title – “Hoop De Loop Saga”

London-based casual social games company King.com announced on Wednesday the launch of its popular ball-shooter game Hoop De Loop Saga for Facebook. This is the fifth game from its website to make the jump to the largest network.

The game comes with added social features and leaderboards.

“You have in Hoop De Loop, which you don’t have in the original version: You have time challenges, you have task time challenges, score challenges, you have survival mode,” King.com CMO Alex Dale spouts off to us. “Probably most important, however, is the social layer. You play alongside your friends, you track their progress, you get updates when you overtake them, etc, etc.”

Hoop De Loop Saga falls under the “ball-shooter” genre, where you shoot balls at an advancing chain of balls to create three or more matching balls. This game comes with a little twist.

In the game, players have to help Moxie Foxey, a young Cloud Fox, stop a runaway ball train by shooting balls to create three or more matching balls. The main objective of the game is to create as many jewels as possible and move them to the front of the chain. Jewels are created through combos or when you successfully eliminate multiple groups of balls with a single shot. You will come across several types of balls with different abilities as well as different types of jewels base on the number of combos you make.

You lose a life if you fail to reach the required level targets before the chain reach the hole. Lives are like energy on other Facebook games, and are incremented by one every half an hour. You can also request your friends to send one.

Upon clearing the level 12, your first craftable item, boosters, will be unlocked. You will be able to craft items called boosters using jewels. Boosters – a single use items with special abilities that you can use to help you in the game – are created with jewels that you create and collect. If you don’t have enough jewels, then you can always get them with Facebook credits.

NASA’s Space Race Blast Off Facebook Game Walkthrough

NASA’s latest launch isn’t something into the space, but something right at your face, with the launch of a multiplayer Facebook game called Space Race Blast Off.

“Space Race Blast Off opens NASA’s history and research to a wide new audience of people accustomed to using social media,” said David Weaver, NASA’s associate administrator for communications. “Space experts and novices will learn new things about how exploration continues to impact our world.”

Space Race Blast Off is a quiz game, where players knowledge is tested on various topics like Aeronautics, Astronauts, Earth, Math, Solar System, Spacecraft, Station, Universe, and Pop Culture.

You will get to choose from 14 avatars to start with. The game picks two other players to join you for each round. If no one enters the game within 15 seconds, you are placed in a solo game.

You will be presented with multiple-choice questions with three choices. Each round will have a total of 10 questions, for 100 points each. Each question will have to be answered within 15 seconds. The player with the quickest response gets a bonus 20 points. The winner (with a minimum of seven correct answers) advances to the bonus round.

Once you enter the bonus round, click on the “Spin” button to get your final question. Answering it correctly will earn you 200 points as well as a virtual badge, depicting NASA astronauts, spacecraft and celestial object. You can also exchange the points you earn for additional badges to complete sets and earn premium badges.

The game features game stats, awards, and leader board, where you can show off/check your progress.

Game graphics isn’t much to talk about, but Space Race Blast Off surely is packed with tons and tons of educational material with a lingering competitive element. It isn’t a casual game, and if you want to rule the leaderboard, you will have to do your homework well.
