Hello readers! I was wondering if you guys came across this song called “Kreepin’ Aint Easy,” uploaded by Facebookparodies on YouTube.
The song is basically about stalking on Facebook, the title says it all. It’s hard to accept it, but there is a little stalker in all of us, and I am sure at one point or the other, all of us have done this Facebook creeping thing.
This video, uploaded in Aug 2010, has around 20k views only. This video really deserves more than that comparing to other Facebook songs littered over YouTube.
Internet users in Syria can now log into Facebook and YouTube without going through proxy servers abroad.
The Syrian government lifted a five-year ban on these two sites today. According to the Arab news, the authorities have not issued any statements regarding the development. However, reports suggest that the lift is most likely a concession to people amidst growing discontent over state repression.
Despite being officially banned in Syria, Facebook and YouTube reportedly enjoyed popular usage across the country by internet users through international proxy servers.
Apart from Facebook and YouTube, bans are still said to be in force for selected blogs, and number of sites including Amazon.com and Wikipedia.
A three minute video clip has put Facebook and YouTube in trouble.
The video titled ‘Indian Army repeating Abu Gharib in Kashmir’ shows Kashmiri youths being paraded naked by uniformed personnels. The video packaged with subtitles and background music is being circulated on Facebook and YouTube.
The Union government of India says the video is still not authenticated and will security agencies are looking into the matter.
“Until it is authenticated and the persons identified, i think it will be unwise to rely on such a video,” said P Chidambaram, Home Minister, India.
Jammu & Kashmir, India, police says it will register a case against the two networking sites for uploading the video.
“A formal case is being registered against the YouTube and Facebook networks and investigation is on to locate the persons responsible for uploading this baseless and malicious clip,” a police spokesman told PTI, “Action shall also be taken against other organisations who tried to propagate it.”
American internet users are spending increasing amount of time on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, while the amount of time spent on e-mail and traditional web portals have declined, according to a recent research report from Nielsen.
The result of the study says that web users, in June, devoted 23% of their online time to social networking sites, up from 16% a year ago. Online games ranked second, previously held by e-mail use, where people spend 10% of their time, powered by social games like Zynga’s Farmville.
Another major service to enjoy increase user time in June was streaming of videos and movies with 3.9%, up from 3.5% a year ago.
This is no major surprise as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube together enjoys close to one billion users, or roughly 20 percent of the world’s population.
Time spent on E-mail dropped from 12% to 8.3%, while online time spent on traditional portals like Yahoo! also fell from 5.5% to4.4% in the last one year.
“You can start your daily online experience on Facebook and perform many essential communications functions,” Nielsen analyst Dave Martin said. “In the past, you might have to log into Yahoo Mail and then log into MSN Messenger and then maybe check the Yahoo home page for new, breaking news.”
Another interesting detail the report showed was; twice as many users over the age of 50 are using social networks than users under age 18, indicating the social network audience is getting more matured.
Facebook never seems to get itself away from the news. A recent news reports of a new technology that allows access to webpages without internet.
Cable television subscribers can now check their Gmail, watch YouTube videos or connect with their friends on Facebook at the cost of the regular cable subscription of Rs 150-200 per month.
Logic Eastern, a Noida-based manufacturer of cable infrastructure in India, has developed special set-top boxes which comes with an in-built patented hardware that enables connections to Gmail, Facebook, YouTube, chats etc. This is achieved through two-way flow of data; from websites to cable operators to consumers and return by using existing cellphone technology.
The company has installed large servers which download Gmail, YouTube and Facebook pages on behalf of its subscribers and pushes them on to their television screens. For now, consumers can access this service with a special remote control. However the company is developing a wi-fi keyboard that will be given along with the set-top boxes.
If this new communication technology picks up, we can expect new range of must-haves televisions very soon. Also, a whole new way of communication will be available. However, this service is only in its trial stage and will be available in selected cities in India.
This is a really welcomed change and i can’t wait to have a taste of it, though i am also concern about the safety of accessing my emails via cable.
